To route you just need to add static routes and appropriate gateways. As you can only route between different networks you will have to have a network for your customers, say 10.0.1.0/24, then a network between the CPE and the AP, say 10.0.2.0/24, then you can NAT to the public address space. Well, to start with, you do not need to do anything to pass a IP address over a bridge. A bridge is a layer 2 device and will pass data regardless of protocol, IP or otherwise. The only reason you have IP addresses assigned to bridges is to manage them. Apart from that, I do not understand your setu...

A switch to band C with DFS and radar detect might cure it but obviously that's a big change!

Might be worth putting up an RB500 with CM9 card or one of the new OSBridge 5GHz APs to see if it's immune. At least then you'd have a fall back position if the problem gets worse.

What you are doing now is fine.

Most PCs are set for DHCP as default so providing an address by DHCP i less work when the computer gets a re-format or restore etc.

Putting a static address on the PC makes the router configuration simpler.

Hope that helps.

I would try dst-nat rule on traffic destined for port 6667 arriving at 192.168.0.2, redirecting it to 192.168.0.3 port 6667. You can also drop all traffic destined for ports other than 6667 on 192.168.0.3.

However, I am not sure if MT can redirect traffic to a different host on the same network.

Thanks for your replies. Umm indeed! The manual states that EoIP is a Mikrotik proprietory protocol so this is an option when using an MT AP and CPE, correct? I don't understand how WDS is applied to get over this problem. Can anyone explain more how this works? NAT would appear to be the cleaner, l...

Remote reset of RB500

I am considering deploying RB500 with an 802.11a mini-PCI card as an access point. Many access point manufacturers allow remote hard reset of their devices using one of the PoE wires which resets the device when grounded. Is any feature like this avaliable on RB500? I notice the passive PoE base uni...

Wireless Bridge CPE

I am looking at using MT as a wired to wireless client CPE device. At the moment I use a wireless bridge which is a transparent Layer 2 device. I had assumed that I would simply add an ethernet interface and a wireless interface to a bridge but it seems from the manual that a 802.11 interface in cli...

We'll need more information than this to help you. Do you mean access a private network from the WAN side of MT? You posted a port address. If you want to access a specific port on a device in your private LAN you can add source and destination NAT and specify any port conversion you want. Alternati...

If you mean you are using the actual interface address i.e. 192.168.1.1 as the target address in your simple queue this is the problem.

You need to use the client's address (assigned by PPPoE in your case) as the target address in the simple queue, and use one queue for each client.

Hope that helps.

It could be that you are expecting each interface to have it's own set of OIDs, assigned to the IP address? This is not the case. OIDs are assigned for the whole router and interrogation can take place on any interface that it not blocked from accepting input packets. So, just go to the interface yo...

Hope that helps.

You can use netwatch if you just want to ping a single client and reboot if it can't be reached. Or, if you want to reboot if many clients are down, you can write your own netwatch like routine. An example is here:

Aren't those ports used just for the SIP messages? My understanding is that the voice traffic uses random UDP ports and RTP protocol, which can't be detected in MT.

Any way to prioritise VoIP?

I am using a combined ATA and router as the end point on a SIP based service. Prioritising the SIP element is easy because it uses specific ports, however, the actual voice traffic uses RTP on a random port. The ATA/router uses only one IP address on it's WAN interface so I can't identify the traffi...

Confused about RB500 Ordering

Using the routerboard.com price calculator, it seems that only RouterOS level 5 can be purchased pre-installed on the RB500. Is this correct and is this 2.8 or 2.9? The price calculator also seems to indicate that I will need RouterOS on a CF card but I thought the OS was supposed to boot from on bo...

But if the client adjusted for DST and then the server served this time, your server wouldn't be serving UTC, would it?

It probably doesn't help, but I have all devices on my network set to UTC only, all year. I found this is the easiest way to avoid confusion.

Whilst following the How-to to send an email when a connected UPS goes on battery, I noticed the actual checking of the UPS state is accomplished by checking the value of $on-battery. Your welcome, marvin. Yes, this method does have the advantage that you get to put the actual IP on the customers device. Putting a private address on it then trying to convince him that it's really a public address is not ideal. If you have two hops after your MT you will need to enable proxy-ARP o...

As above, this depends on what you want to acheive on the LAN side. If you have multiple hops you will need proxy-ARP on both interfaces. I use ARP-reply only on the LAN side (single hop) for added security which works with some host devices. If there is no proxy-ARP on the LAN interface you need to...

I'm not sure I have this right but it seems like you want to 'carry' a public IP address across your network to a customer. You might be better off using proxy-arp instead of multiple 1:1 NATs, if it is supported by all your devices.
