i did an OS upgrade and on rebooting the RB1100 keeps rebooting with a beep on reboot. How can this be sorted? am not even able to connect to it using the mac address using winbox

I'm pretty sure you need WDS (or station-bridge) to pass DHCP from one router THROUGH another like you are trying to do. But since you have an Apple AP it won't work. Please support with a reason why it is not recommended, it all depends on what one needs to achieve, why should i put a sector antenna when i have all cpe's within the beamwidth 25º of the sxt situated at the tower. guys the web proxy on mikrotik does wonders to does save me about 15% on bandwidth as it does cache too. depending on the traffic mikrotik should be able to work well. it will cache windows updates, and other common updates like ant viruses

no AP that can handle 1000 concurrent users. First that is crowded, You might need a mix of 5Ghz and 2 Ghz Radios on different sectors.

There are power routers by linktechs(Mikrotik OS) out there that do a great deal of cache than what you have stated and handle quite big networks we would say 300-500 concurrent users and more bandwidth

please post configs of the AP , Stations and the repeaters too. You are having 2 radios on the same board or one radio does both the repeating and as AP too. My advise if you can avoid WDS please do. Just do the PTP with one radio and AP with an alternate radio

use the Sata HDD for better read/write. if you are not going to store the files then you can better incraese the memory of your machine. i have web proxy with cache on the HDD and works perfect

you will need more routerboards , but it all depends on how the rooms are placed and which antennas you will use. but definately you will need some high gain antenna for a good reception in the rooms. The routerboards should be able to handle the authentication of only 12 rooms

please have a look at the file attached you will find that the ip address 10.0.0.89 has been issued to a client as per the ip/hotspot/host. then when you look at the ip/dhcp-server/leases the same ip has been issued to a different client too

am not seeing any Mikrotik routerboard with multiple proccessors coming out any earlier than the second quarter. The best option they have currently and quickest is to have the OS support multi core machines. And am sure that is the next step they will be taking

but the best way is still not NAT (redirect), but route all http traffic to squid machine and then use transparent proxy (TProxy) on it =)

A week ago i had to purchase a core 2 duo machine, RB44GV just because Mikrotik did not have a multi-core Router board Mikrotik, The internet Traffic gets complex and is dynamic lets have more power. Multi core is the solution especially as Edge Routers for ISP's like me

good i thought so. Incase of hotspot users. is better to have it as a parent proxy on the mikrotik or ask the users to have them manually have the browsers with the proxy server ip input.

from the experiences indicated here i guess the Duo 2 core machine with RouterOS has an better performance than RB1000 but bit more costly. Mikrotik what is it that you are coming up with that would work better than than a duo 2 core or quad core system if any

i realised the the issue here was that even if IP Binding was put on the some routers the same Router would issue the same IP addresses as those already bound to certain MAC addresses which means that the router was not recognising that the same IP had been bound to some MAc address and stil issued ...

I have this irregular behaviour where the Mikrotik HotSpot leases an Ip Address to the Client Cpe/unit but the client cannot be abble to browse not even open the Login page, But when i reboot the Router then the cleint is then able to Browse. You need to enable mac authentication on the mikrotik, but it does show the ip address of the client and the mac address that has been used by the client

what am looking for here is performance. Booting applies to the other too, some X86 can be rack mounted which means small, cheap not really i can get a duo 2 Core at a cheaper price.

i dont think you need parabolic antennas patch panel antennas 21 dbi would work well rb133 and says r5h radios or r52 should work for such a short distance

the rb433ah is a router meaning you dont need the linksys router, and it has the slots for mini pci cards for the wireless cards which means you dont need the linksys wireless, But you can elaborate your network so that better advise can be given on the same. what is the rb433ah supposed to do?

the question here is not really failover but an intelligent load balancing where all the links are used simulteneously and the mikrotik takes the cost effective route/path in terms of latency to a particular site etc. we need to utilise all ISP's bandwidth at the same time

all the same depends on the distance you want cover. grid could give you long distance as opposed to panel. As grid mostly has high gain than panel ie 32 35 dbi, as opposed to 21,23 dbi on the panel antenna

I have noticed that some hotspot clients are blcaklisted with the OS at times . the Hotspot (DHCP server) will issue an IP to the client but will not allow traffic to pass through it from the MAC address untill i do a reboot of the OS. Has anybody realised/exprienced this?

90 degrees will have less interference due to a smaller beam width as opposed to the 120 degrees.And the 90 degrees will usually give you a longer distance coverage as opposed to 120 degrees. But it is all dependant on ones infrasttature. 4 sectors of 90 degrees will carry more cpe's as opposed to 3...

they are not like an omni because they are different radios. they can transmit simultaneously. they can only be like an omni if you use the three antennas with one radio using a three way splitter.

have the rb433AH do the PTP bridging . With the ADSL side have the routing done on a an RB1000 or RB600 as opposed to having the rb433AH handling the routing load balancing ptp at the same time. the client end can do the ptp and hotspot comfortably

that will be dependant on your area of coverage and if you are using 4 sectors then 90 degrees will do if using 3 sectors then 120 will do. But it all relies on the area you intend to cover.

NS5 is a good CPE if working within a radius 3 Km. if you need to long distances then you can go for the PS5 which could work a distance of 5-7Km i dont recomend the use of external antennas on the nanos and/or the PS's. 5.8 is very stable, if you require a QOS better use mikrotik all through and make sure there is LOS, PS5 & NS5 could be an alternative.

Dont not even attempt to do an upgrade. better operate the unit with its OS 2.9.X.X but not 3.X at all. It cannot handle this OS it is like having Vista on a P11 machine, it hardly works if it does work.

I upgraded a RB133 from 2.9.51 to 3.17 and it was a total mess. The unit is now behaving funny is hardly even accessible via any mode ie is very slow in response infact it reaches a point you cannot even ping it. any idea the reason for the above. could it be a memory issue.

you can simply bridge WAN1 and WAN2 then have an access point on that port. But you can also separate them by having a hotspot created on WAN2 also

would the filter below work
85 chain=forward action=passthrough src-address=10.0.0.0/24
out-interface=WAN1 dst-port=1812 protocol=udp

that is all traffic through the lan that are destined for port 1812 protocol udp go through WAN1

How would i direct traffic to the radius server through Gateway 1 only. as when traffic goes thru Gateway 2 also the client gets the error you are already logged in.

winbox also uses ports which i have filtered, i guess it means a new installation unless somebody has another idea

i have locked myself from accessing the router OS (PC) is there a way of getting entry as i have filtered all ports when trying to block virus ports. i can login to the hotspot but cannot even access it using winbox
