Multicast is made exactly for such setups. Multicast is an option, but is going to be much more complicated than a simple Windows Media server. Re: Core Router Hardware

In this install all of the racks are prewired with a 48port Cat6 patch panel to central wire management racks. All switching is located in the wire management racks. The patch panel is mounted at the very top, rear of the rack; so the rear Ethernet is suited for this type of install. You can almost ...

Re: Core Router Hardware

We looked at those as well as an OEM unit that looks almost identical. It looks like a very nice piece for many applications. In our case, space is not a big issue as we have plenty of rack space where we are deploying them. In a NEMA box or a cramped rack at a POP they'd be an ideal choice. At our ...

Re: Core Router Hardware

Yes, the build is finished, although we're still working on some migrations and making the racks look nice. We have two firewall/routers, both Dell PowerEdge 860's with Dual-core Xeon CPUs. The one serves our busines network, the other services our wired and wireless guest network running hotspot. T...

Re: Core Router Hardware

We have several Dell PowerEdge 860's in service in both core router and firewall roles. Currently they're all running v3.x to because the bootable drive controllers are SATA. The onboard Broadcom Gigabit NICs work great with ROS. They have 2 slots that are PCI-E, but you can request a PCI-X riser if...

*) added support for Intel EXPI9404PT PCI-E ethernet adpater;

So far so good; all interfaces on this NIC now appear.

Question; does the driver you used support the on board processor on this NIC?

Re: MT the answer for a DS3

If you don't want to pay for a DS3 interface, you need to request Ethernet hand off. The only advantage to a DS3 is when you need to channelize a connection. We're using a MT on a 200Mbs fiber connection without any problems. It comes directly into a MT using a PCI-e 1Gbs fiber adapter; the ISP thro...

Re: Watchguard Firebox hardware and RouterOS?

We've been building core routers and firewalls out of Dell PowerEdge 860's. We install up to two dual quad gig cards; giving us a total of total of 10 Gig Interfaces if needed. We use them because of the gold or silver onsite 4hr support. The last set were dual-core 2.6Ghz with 2GB RAM. I can't tell...

So far no luck with the LCD. Just flicker and garbage on the screen.

It's a 20x2, SDEC LMC-SS2A20.

Re: Watchguard Firebox hardware and RouterOS?

Well I broke down and popped the top on one of them. It has a removable 256MB flash. I pulled it and installed another that I'd put v3rc5 on with Netinstall. After a few minutes and some beeping; I now have a MikroTik device with 6- 10/100 ethernet interfaces. (Watchguard charges to install the addi...

I have several routerboards and numerous x86 systems in service. I've now inherited about 40 Watchguard Firebox and wondered if anyone had tried to make RouterOS run on them; before I open one up and void the warranty.

I've tried it with 3rc3, 4 and I think 5.

Netinstall picks up all of the interfaces; but they don't show up once installed.

I'll try it again with 3.0rc5 to be sure.
