You could use a variation on port knocking but using icmp and various packet sizes.

Then the client can use the ping command with size set to execute the knock

Hope that helps

Ooh, I like that. ICMP packet sizes are also pretty obscure to someone sniffing the wire.

There is no point purchasing a licence as you will never be able to activate it without internet access.
You might as well use the free one.
Ok, I may have over-emphasised the "never" bit. I can give it internet during the setup and configuration, but once it goes live it's offline.

Hi all, Can anyone confirm if this is a known issue, or if I'm doing something stupid. Same here. Best option I found was to export the config in 6.18, downgrade to 5.26, then nuke the config (/system reset) and re-apply from the export. Works fine from then onwards.

Re: Routerboard with USB Hub to support more than 1 3G Modem

Hi Normis, I also want to use this type of setup, and I see there has been other threads discussing about USB power injectors on 411's. I'm unsure which routerboards need power injectors and which don't, as I'd prefer to avoid using them if possible. Which RB should I buy? And do I need a powered US...

Hi Myron in router-a i can ping 10.13.0.2 but if im in router b it wont ping 10.13.0.1 using laptap connected to 10.14.0.0/24 If you're trying via a laptop connected to router b, then also check that your laptop has either a default route via 10.14.0.1 or has a route to 10.13.0.0/24 via 10.14.0.1. &...

Re: 802.11n

Does each chain (or antenna port) using .11n use a seperate 20Mhz channel or do they all share the same 20Mhz and transmit at the same time and recieve at the same time? I've not found any good documentation to explain that. they all share those 20mhz and transmit and receive at the same time. Hi U...

Will MetaRouter run on x86 hardware, or just routerboard? I'm using x86 based servers in a co-host facility.

Is there any feature difference with Xen and MetaRouter?

Re: Xen won't go

Thanks for posting that hush. I was about to upgrade my 3.22 Xen machines :) I think I'll hold off for now. Whilst Xen is very useful (particularly if you're trying to save on datacentre hosting fees), it is still a bit buggy, and I believe MT are openly stating that Xen is in an "alpha" s...

Re: Xen won't go

Hmmm... this does seem a little odd. How much RAM does the machine have anyway? I'm a bit suspect that your "main" MT is still showing over 300mb of memory when you've set the limit at 128mb. When I first started playing with Xen I had a number of very similar issues - ie: VM fails to star...

Hi Tom, Just looking at what you quoted: /system resource> print <...> free-memory: 321336kB total-memory: 353040kB <...> /xen global-settings set memory-for-main=128MiB You have the main memory at 128mb, but your /system resource print is showing 345mb. Have you rebooted the box since applying the ...

Re: Best way to copy across a 20GB xen image

Hey Trydon, What you're trying to do should be possible. I have an almost identical setup - PC with 80gb HDD running MT3.23. My Xen VM's have two images (two virtual drives each) one being 20gb and the other 30gb. I didn't try loading with SCP, but used FTP instead and worked fine - just took a long...

For what it's worth, I had the same problem on a recent version (don't recall the version, could have been 3.23). I removed my walled garden rules and re-added them and they started to work fine.

OpenVPN stops responding

Hi all, I keep coming across this problem / bug whereby OpenVPN stops responding. I have it all setup fine and working, but it is in an experimental stage. From time to time I'm changing something like the certificate, or possibly moving from port 1194 to port 443. I find that often when I make a ch...

Re: Cannot get xen and virtual-ethernet to work :(

Actually, as I'd finished writing the above, I found the fix, but thought I'd post it anyway incase it is useful to others. In the Centos image supplied, the /etc/modprobe.conf needs to be modified to use the xennet driver. So, as supplied with the image, /etc/modprobe.conf looks like this: alias et...

Hi Webor / All, I don't have a solution to offer, but wanted to chip in that I am having an almost identical issue. My setup is fairly typical... WinXP SP3 -> NAT/PAT DSL -> Internet -> MT Server (no natting - direct on the internet) However, what I can see from my debugging is that it seems that L2...

Depends a lot on weather. How much lightning a year? Mostly radio card that have problems. Also depends on where installed. So weather wise I need to consider typical English weather. So, say, from 0c up to 30c with a lot of rain, and occasional lightening. The units will be installed below roof li...
