Throughput of wireless card

We are operating a hotspot with 20 to 30 clients connected at any one time. Sometimes we hear complaints that “the network is slow”. We are now trying to determine what bottlenecks we have on our network. One of the limiting factors is the wireless card. The question we like to ask the forum is if t...

ros v6, simple queues, parameter "Target"

Hi all
It is not clear to me what traffic is processed in a simple queue if I specify as Target parameters an interface name and in addition one or more IP addresses. Is it only the traffic on that interface with the specified IP addresses?

Identifying online video traffic

I am using Layer 7 / skypeout protocol (together with skypetoskype) in Mangle to identify Skype traffic to give it a higher priority in the queue tree. This works fine, except that skypout also picks up online videos (Youtube and others). I am therefore looking for a way to identify online videos to...

Re: v5.6, pcq generates excessive number of subqueues

After further investigation I have now found that the problem with excessive number of PCQs only occurs if under Bridge / Settings the square "Use IP Firewall For PPPoE" is ticked.

Re: v5.6, pcq generates excessive number of subqueues

Here is further information to the previous post "v5.6, pcq generates excessive number of subqueues". I downgraded to v5.0rc1 and then upgraded again to v5.0rc7. It turns out that the problem described in the previous post was not present in v5.0rc1, but was present in v5.0rc7 and behaves ...

v5.6, pcq generates excessive number of subqueues

After upgrading from v4.17 to v5.6 we noticed that the pcq's were generating at times large numbers of subqueques. The screen shot below shows 418 subqueues in the queue ″Upload / Priority-Low-Up″. There were only a few active clients connected at the time (<10). Excessive number of subqueues only o...

v5.6, new parameter "Src Address Mask" in Queue Types

We have a situation where hosts from several different networks are passing through a router for traffic shaping. The networks may be, e.g., 20.0.80.0/24, 20.0.81.0/24, 192.168.1.0/24. We are using pcq's such that each host gets an equal share of the available bandwidth. With v4.x the system worked ...

Re: Upgrade from v4.17 -> v5.5 breaks PCQ Queues

Hi Gareth

After upgrading to V5.6 we are experiencing a similar problem with the pcq as you described here.

Has there been a resolution to that problem and, if so, could you provide more info?

Meaning of "policy"

Hi all On the head section of the script editor page as well as on the Scheduler one finds under the title "Policy" the terms reboot, write, test, sniff, read, policy, password and sensitive. I found a brief description of these terms on http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Scripting, but it is n...

Re: Clean Drive

Thank you Sergejs.
One more question. When I press the Clean Drive button, the message "All disk data will be lost! Clean anyway?" appears. Does that mean that only the files which are not needed are removed, or does it also remove the firmeware, which would then require a new install?

Hi all There used to be about 30 MB of free HDD space out of the 61.4 MB, which was plenty for uploading a new firmeware for upgrade. Now something happened and the free HDD space is only 12 MB. Under Files there are only about 100 kB of data listed. To free more HDD space I went to Stores / Disks a...

Re: Upgrade Hotspot 3.23 -> 3.28: Login broken

Hi normis,

The erroneous login behaviour is repeatable. I suggest you have somebody repeat the test I described in my post on 25.09.09. Just make sure the network setting on the PC is "Obtain an IP address automatically".

Re: Upgrade Hotspot 3.23 -> 3.28: Login broken

I am experiencing the same problem as reinerotto. The ROS version is routeros-x86-3.30.npk. I played around to see under what condition the problem with hotspot login occurs. Here is the sequence in detail; it may help the MT people to locate the problem. 1. Open Internet Explorer and enter a web ad...

Re: How can one setup a router without masquerading?

To: changeip Thank you for your response. I am not an expert on routing and therefore I would appreciate if you could be more specific on what needs to be done on the adsl router and the MT router. To your question: I don't think the adsl router has a route back to the 10.x network. Would that be po...

Re: How can one setup a router without masquerading?

Hello experts

I was hoping to get some more specific answers to my question.

Simply turing off masquerading and letting the ADSL router do it does not work. Maybe the way routing is set up is not sufficient and here I would appreciate some advice.

How can one setup a router without masquerading?

We are operating an MT router RB 433, software version v3.22, with wireless and hotspot function enabled and with the number of clients varying from a few up to 40. The public side of the MT router is connected to an ADSL router for internet access and to an FTP server. For bandwidth control we are ...

On our hotspot we use masquerade instead of src-nat. But I am not sure if it will solve your problem with internet access.

script does not print on terminal

I wrote a script that sets a parameter, reads another parameter and prints (using :put) it to the terminal. When I run the script from the terminal (>system script run <file name>) then everything works fine. However, when I run it from the scheduler or when I press the "Run Script" button...

Static DNS entries not recognized

Here is a follow-up question from my problem posted on 14.4.09 In order to use Web Proxy Cache and DNS Cache when the Hotspot is turned off I added a dst-nat rule to redirect port 80 traffic to the proxy port. With this, web and DNS data get cached. However, static DNS entries I made in IP / DNS / S...

Question about marking connections and packets

When marking packets in Mangle, normally one marks first the connection and then in second rule uses the connection mark as the selection criterion to mark the packet. In some Wiki articles they use in the connection rule as an added criterion "Connection State = new" and in some not. Spec...

We have set up a hotspot using a MikroTik router. Everything works fine, but we noticed that each client recieves two IP addresses, one is listed under DHCP Server / Leases and the other under Hotspot / Active. Is that normal?
