Re: Upgraded to V6 on my STX and Groove but

Hi, I had the same query. Here is the response I received:

PietRetief, both firmwares are working ok. We will update to the newer firmware for those boards in next RouterOS release.

Re: v6.0 released

Hi, I just upgraded from Ros5.25 on a RB433, RB750G, 5Ghz RB711G and SXT All of them were running firmware 3.07 (that came with Ros5.25), but now the SXT and 711 state that their latest available firmware is 3.02? Is it safe to run 3.07 on them or should I downgrade to 3.02 for those 2 routers. Rega...

Call CPU Profiler tool from a script

Good day. Is it possible to call the /tool profile from inside a script, then use the output as variables? I am able to use the wireless monitoring tool, but I cannot figure out the syntax to use the profile tool: :local wlanFreq 0; :local noiseFloor 0; /interface wireless monitor $wlan once do={ :s...

Re: Forgot my password

Wow. I must say, the complete lack of response from Mikrotik on this issue is getting to me. @Mikrotik: How hard would it be to start supporting hashed passwords, as an optional setting by the user. I am happy if this breaks The Dude, BW monitor, API, etc, because what I want is to create a "ro...

Re: Forgot my password

Normis, I think you guys completely misunderstands how password hashing works. Simple Hashing would be: password_hash = algorithm(password) This has a problem in itself that one could use a lookup hash table to easily get the password. However this can be overcome by using a salt: X must be constan...

Re: Forgot my password

API does not send plaintext password, it sends MD5("\x00" + password + challenge) - so the result is different every time in spite of that, it's possible to save MD5 registers after hashing ("\x00" + password) - and then server will be able to construct MD5("\x00" + pa...

Re: Forgot my password

Tell me again why the rb needs to store the plain text password? because API protocol does not support encryption %( p.s. that's not true, they can store pre-calculated not finished MD5("\x00" + PWD) value for API logins So should the API not be update to take the text given, hash it, the...

Re: Forgot my password

I did read. But to verify that hash we need plain text password on the router. Bullshit. You do not need to have the plaintext password so that you can hash it and compare the hash. What the hell? Procedure: I type password "secret" into winbox and click login. winbox creates a secure conn...

Re: Forgot my password

I have been directed to this thread when I raised the issue of insecure passwords to support. Here is my view: You cannot use "keep your backup file safe" as an excuse to a very poor security design. And using 400 different passwords is also not an option (we manage 400 nodes). We have use...

Re: Nv2 QOS

Same here, can someone please post a working example of how to use this? @Mikrotik, can you use the new QoS feature in NV2 to give certain packets priority over others now without using queue and/or trees? Silly example, can I give priority 1 to any port 80 traffic, while giving priority 2 to port 2...

Re: Ping in script problem

NV2 is more important tan scripting. Wireless PtP links rarely use scripts.
Does NV2 give you dynamic QoS limits on fluctuating links due to change in ccq, noise, etc?

not necessarily, you can run the user manager in the same device as your RouterOS (if the machine is powerful enough). it's just another routeros package. That sounds perfect :o Stupid question: can a readonly user see what goes on in the user manager? apparently he can :) sorry for that. we are ha...

Re: Hide pppoe passwords from read only users

no, RADIUS is just an external database of user credentials. RouterOS ppp section will be told to look in the RADIUS if a user exists or not. That way, only people with access to RADIUS will see passwords. This is useful for situations where you have multiple access locations (like country wide hot...

Re: Hide pppoe passwords from read only users

password is one parameter, routeros doesn't have the ability to control viewability of certain parameters. we could hide certain functions though, but that won't help you. I suggest using a RADIUS server to store all your passwords, in this case you will not have this problem. Even user-manager cou...

Hide pppoe passwords from read only users

Good day, I would like to know if the following setup is possible: I have a RB411 that I use to connect to a wireless network. This network is free and open, and I want to have a read only user on my RB that anybody on that network can use to see what is going on on my RB. The problem is that I also...
