Re: Happy with your purchase?

So, that level of "amateur" seeming stuff is what just boggles me. I can support myself, most of the time, provided the docs are good and things are consistent. But they're not. And when you expect bog-standard features to be there, and they're not - you just can't believe it. You wonder ...

Hi All, Would you buy more RouterOS devices/licences if these features were added ? Unfortunately - no. It would be too little, too late. After wrestling with MT bugs for 5 years, we opted to upgrade to Cisco end-to-end. I am waiting on some additional hardware so I can complete the move of our ser...

Re: NTP Client vulnerable to buffer overflow?

PCI scans are by and large, junk. The purpose is valid, but the execution is a thinly veiled money grab. Scan vendor throws out ridiculous "this might be a vulnerability" en masse, then challenges the customer to produce reams of documentation to dispute it, or pay a small monthly "fe...

BitTorrent is a tough one to track and block due to the advanced encryption it is starting to use. The built-in BitTorrent filter doesn't do a real great job of blocking it. Here is an enhanced L7 filter: /ip firewall layer7-protocol add comment="" name=bittorrent regexp="^(\\x13bitt...

Upgrade path from v3.24 to v5.5

I've been putting off upgrading our core router because it's a pain to get into the colo if I screw something up (or a bug in that version breaks bgp or something.)

5.5 finally looks decent.

Anyone have a good roadmap?

Is the rb450 reset button defective by design?

I grabbed a spare off the shelf. Never been used except for perhaps some config testing - which is what I was going to do this morning. Password set to who-knows-what. This is one of the updated models apparently, one which actually has a reset switch. Too bad it doesn't work. The usual broken MT re...

Ubnt is for different purposes. Nothing can replace the good old RouterBOARD and even more so for RouterOS. The least broken User-Manager could be v5.0RC4 or you could try v5.0RC6 when it comes out. Please when you encounter an issue, don't be screaming like a schoolgirl "whaaa not working&quo...

Ubiquiti doesn't have a radius client, so you need to configure the client side radius options on the rb450. Configure the mikrotik with a hotspot on the interfaces to which the UB's are connected. I know that RC4 works, but no idea on rc5. With 11 versions so far and none of them yet fit for produc...

Re: Can't access Signup without login?

You should probably be using RadiusManager instead. It's not without it's issues, but the developer does provide direct technical support, rather than foisting it off on 3rd parties. I was told that UM in 5.x would support signup for free access, but this does not appear to be the case. Given that t...

Anything below 5.0 suffers from poor design - not allowing self signup with free access. And most (or all - not sure) of the 5.0 betas/rc's are just broken. Between all the betas and rc's, it's confusing. It would be nice if someone could post a comparison table showing the different ways in which e...

I don't control any radios using MT. Our locations are all internal currently, and I don't want to have to deal with dorky looking antennas coming out of my routers, getting caught/hung on stuff. How ruthless can you be in your implementation? I'm fortunate in that the only places I have to be concerned about p2p is on the public networks for our retail customers. Mark subsequent traffic to/from nodes on BadBoy list as 'badboys' Queue 'badboys' traffic pri 8 limited to 10kbps. This method relies on the assumption that everything leaks to on...

Is there a compelling reason you want your radios to be on board?

I've considered this from time to time, but have always gone with discrete ap's to avoid the rf loss that will occur between the router and the actual antenna.

I've been using Engenius AP's, but may switch to Ubiquity's Bullet 2HP.

The flip side to the pretty, professional rackmount case is that the tco would be very high for me.

We use 450G's at our branches and in the colo.

The little 450G is housed with our servers at no extra cost, but a full 1U unit would be an extra $40 a month.
