We have found that if you lock the tx-sector using the cli and do the alignment, once you unlock the tx sector, the rssi gets better by 2-5 db. Not sure if it would get there without this procedure tho. Since there are 64 sectors, we lock it to the middle. We don't bother with the arrows, we look at...

Look under queue. Find your queues for each interface and any simple queues or queue trees you have set up.

All of the default queues on mikrotik are really small. 50 packets or less.

It's likely not on your mikrotik side but on the dsl providers side.

If you have both tkip and aes select in profiles, the radios will use the strongest of the two methods that being aes. You can verify the method used in wireless registration.

Anyways,

Set up a profile like in the picture attached to this post and set it on both radios on the wireless tab under profile.

Post terminal output to /interface wireless export hide-sensitive

Upgrade to 5.14 as well.

Check for clean channel using scan and freq usage.

Re: Winbox for Mac OSX (basic question)

Can you have multiple copies of winbox open?

I downloaded Crossover and gave it a try. Can't seem to get multiple copies running. A guy in another topic was able to.

Re: Winbox for Mac OSX (basic question)

Here are the ones I was referring to: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ http://wineskin.doh123.com/ And using vanilla Wine compiled from source or Mac Ports. Crossover is Wine, just commercialized and supported. Those of you using Crossover, does your drag and drop work for uploading files and do y...

Re: I think it is MTU problem

just to make sure.... Changing the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and the max DNS packet size are two different things. Queries from 8.8.8.8 will not have the UDP packet truncation issue so if your having issues when using 8.8.8.8 then changing the max UDP packet size won't fix the issue. However if your ha...

I think it is MTU problem

It's possible that the DNS udp packets are exceeding 512 bytes due to too much information returned in the request. Set the max DNS packet size to 8192.

Winbox for Mac OSX (basic question)

Happens to me as well. Initially it worked but it breaks over time. I haven't tried to troubleshoot it because I'd rather not same that information. If you want to clear it, you have to delete the .wine directory in your home folder. There are hidden directories that your not clearing just by uninst...

Nv2 medium-access timeout problem

5.9 had major improvements in signal to noise levels under NV2.

5.14 addressed NV2 disconnects.

If you haven't tried 5.14 NV2, give it a go.

Also, if the link isn't stable with nstreme or 802.11 modes, it's not going to be stable with NV2.

Hotel bandwidth management

You can use pcq and set a per user limit in queue type with "rate." It's more efficient then simple queues and you can adjust the rate on the fly. You can still use hotspot with this.

Upgrade to RB450G?

It sounds to me like you need to optimize your rules if your only pushing 50 mbit at 98% CPU. Is your CPU set to the correct speed? Make sure to uncheck pass through in mangle rules to prevent useless processing of packets. Use connection marks then packet markets. Connection marks are tracked under...

802.11n throughput problem

you already set 'HT extension channel above' with '20/40 MHz above' in channel size. that option moved in Ros 5.

I would suggest using mpls ptp wireless link guide on wiki if you don't want to use wds.

monitoring 490 items - want to move from x86 to 1100ahx2

I suspect the dude will benefit the most from the fastest single processor speed more then dual/quad cores.

I was commenting that the flash in the 1100 would not be ideal for dude with that many devices. ROS CPU skyrockets with IO to internal flash.

I would go for the 493AH or 493G models for this. I believe that's 32 mbit total which should be doable, but can't speak from experience.

I've done 3 x PCC on an RB 1300. Barely gets taxed...

You also need to consider the storage subsystem. The dude of that size will not run well off the flash of the RB. We had dude 3.6 running in ROS 5 on routermaxx 2.93 dual core x86 with dude store on 2.5 inch hard drive and it could not keep up with snmp tags. They would stop working. Moved to win 7 ...

Re: RANCID Config Backup

This goes in mtrancid. After some testing, it doesn't really fix the issue. how about # RouterOS splits long lines with backslashes - this joins them back up if (/\\\n$/) { s/\\\n$//; $buffer .= $_; if (!/=$/ && !/="[^"]+$/ ) { $buffer .= ""; } }

Re: RANCID Config Backup

It's not that the name is not being recognized, it's that the scripts it's running have errors in the first line which produce "No such file or directory". Run mtlogin and mtrancid manually and address those issues. Then it should work. I had to change the following in Falz's scripts for D...

Re: Nv2 medium-access timeout problem

Are you using an extension channel? I have a similar issue with a pair of SXT's I am trying to resolve, and for me the issue seems to be tied to both chains in TX/RX and an extension channel enabled. If I disable extension or disable TX or RX on one of the chains, the stability clears up. Extension...

NV2 only supports 800ms guard at this time. You will not get 300 / 150 only 270 / 135.
