IMHO Microtik urgently needs a competent industrial designer. What massive big eared plastic ugliness is this? :(

Specs is one thing, but at this price the product must have corresponding build and design quality.

Why the following regular expression not working in DNS static entry?

Seems this works instead
^domain\.[net|com]
BTW, the very first expression which is the correct, works just fine in proxy access list matching either "net" or "com"

Re: RB493G features and first impressions

RB493G's USB interface works flawlessly but as already mentioned before, it doesn't provide the necessary +5VDC VBUS power. Don't ask me why they did that. I assume technical or board layout difficulties have occurred but still is a major limitation, at least for some. In a few words to use a USB fl...

Re: OS v5.0 Stable, ever?

here every rb450g takes about 3 ~ 5 minutes at most!
I'll keep that in mind next time. BTW this should be clearly specified in RouterOS upgrade documentation.

Thank you all, folks!

Re: OS v5.0 Stable, ever?

Just upgraded my RB433AH with combined package, it took about 3 minutes.
Three minutes after finished uploading the upgrade packages?
Thanks Grzegorz!

Re: OS v5.0 Stable, ever?

30 is not so much, remember that it's installing all the packages you uploaded. wait a minute. Thanks for the tip normis. I don't remember exactly how long I waited but it was about half a minute. How long is it safe to wait for a 680MHz model to reboot after its firmware got updated? Besides using...

Re: OS v5.0 Stable, ever?

@janisk: Just a question regarding upgrading 4.1x to v5.0 RC5. How long should we wait a router to reboot after uploading the routeros package? A few minutes ago with a brand new RB493G, I've uploaded the RC5 combined package (via Winbox files) and then ordered it to /system reboot . I waited almost...

Re: [RB750] no access: IP: 0.0.0.0

So, now it seems to boot. With Winbox I can see the MAC address but the IP is 0.0.0.0 and therefore I cannot connect.
Click with your mouse on the MAC address instead IP and Winbox will connect just fine.

as i can see, RB750 don't have RS232 port :( Ooops! Didn't notice model number; Sorry! Anyway, try the alternative pxe booting method using ethernet. Connect router and your computer with ethernet cable. Before doing anything, configure netinstall (net booting - boot server) with an IP of your comp...

Try using Netinstall with serial null modem cable. Usually it works fine.

Re: RB493G features and first impressions

Just got one of these babies but I haven't yet checked in detail the current consumption. It doesn't seem to exceed the specs, though (3-5W on idle - no cards). Something I liked is that it doesn't run as hot as other routerboards. Actually, it runs pretty cold (< 15 degrees C above environmental te...

Re: RB493G features and first impressions

I don't want to put a negative spin on this product. I still plan to use this at my WPOPs. The RB493G is relatively low cost and has the most Gigabit ethernet ports of any RouterBoard along with miniPCI slots for radios. I, too, don't actually consider this twin chip implementation as some serious ...

Re: RB493G features and first impressions

It's really too bad that these switch chips don't have a really high speed bus that allows you to gang them together.
I was wondering Tom if the two switch groups could be chained together. Not the best workaround but it might work for some.

Re: RB493G features and first impressions

Thank you for the info Tom.
Personally I do prefer using R52Hn because of the newer and supposedly improved chipset but one of my clients insists that 3x3 MIMO can improve the performance significantly. I don't agree but you know the old saying that the "customer is always right"... :)

We should have stock of the 493G in around 2 weeks, once it arrives from MikroTik.

Re: RB493G availability

Impossible, resellers already have them! Believe me normis, they don't. I buy MT stuff from Aerial.net, LinkShop (GR), Meconet (DE) and LinITX (UK) and they have absolutely no idea when they will have 493G in stock. And btw, not even your own routerboard.com store has them on sale (yet). ;) You can...

Orders under 1000$ will have "small order fee" plus shipping from Latvia. It's much cheaper to buy locally, and you will get local support. Yeah I know that normis. It is (much) cheaper buying locally but you know, sometimes it's preferable spending more and get things done right on time ...

Re: NEW RB711

I'm very disappointed too! :(

Is it so difficult to bring something really useful like a 450G + R52Hn + L5 in a nice metal case? I'm pretty sure that's what most of us were expecting for. It would sell like hotcakes.

I do love Mikrotik's products but I cannot find the one I really need. Something like an RB450G + miniPCI wireless, probably a USB port too. Such a board would allow many of us to get rid of all cr*ppy plastic indoor wireless routers, replacing them with a reliable routerboard - routerOS combi, with...
