Any hints as to when these will become available in the US? Neither this nor the ax2 are available now, though they are FCC approved. I wonder if there's some unobtanium needed to build enough to meet demand.

I would like to be able to monitor a network that has a lot of different vendors' radios in it, with Mikrotik routing but others' radios. When a RouterOS devivce is monitored, the SNMP display has a nice Wireless tab. Is there a way to use that tab or someething like it for other radios? Or is that ...

Re: My wisp network design is strange?

In general I agree with the design. By using VLANs, you don't have to worry about broadcast traffic, which old-fashioned flat bridged networks suffered from. The only thing that seems odd to me is using separate VLANs for each customer. You can cluster a group of users onto a single VLAN (not so man...

Re: QoS for VoIP without routing

The mark-each-port method is looking more problematic because it require me to limit the bw of the computers, rather than prioritize the voice, which is a tiny flow of traffic that does however go to pot when doing a heavy upload. But I notice a lot of options in the queuing section. That does seem ...

I designed a protocol for that purpose, RSPF, around 30 years ago. Over the following 15 years, a few partial Linux implementations were done. This predated 802.11, and I never got around to writing the v3 that would support that (it was designed around AX.25).

Re: Wireless connection droppping on RB951-2n

It's going all gaga again! Or as my son asked me when his laptop lost its connection, why am I buying cheap Latvian gear? I told him that it's because of the good support. BTW I'm still on 5.16, which it came with. First off, some background. The initial problem for which I started this thread was c...

Re: Wireless connection droppping on RB951-2n

I raised the group key lifetime to 90 minutes, so there are fewer rekeying incidents. So far the failures that have happened have been in the Cisco cable modem itself -- now *that* is giong to need replacement. Of course this has only been a few days; for a while, I was back in WEP mode.

Re: Wireless connection droppping on RB951-2n

I think it's a software bug, so testing one should suffice. From the logs, it appears in my case that the problem is the default 5 minute group key lifetime in WPA. (The unit being disconnected is pre-WPA2, but has WPA "1" with AES.) The re-keying sometimes fails. I don't know the details ...

Re: Wireless connection droppping on RB951-2n

The error in the log was "disconnected, group key exchange timeout". The default "group key update" value was set at 00:05:00 (5 minutes/300 seconds). I had no idea what that meant and if it was the same thing, so I googled around and found some exchanges on the topic. This is th...

Re: Wireless connection droppping on RB951-2n

There have been no obvious failures of the WEP connections. However, the Buffalo was the only static one on a desktop; laptop and smartphone connections come and go, and we don't use the Wii often enough to know. I've moved the Buffalo over to WEP and it has stayed up ovenight, not that it's a long ...

Re: Wireless connection droppping on RB951-2n

It failed again maybe an hour or two after the last reset. I wasn't there to catch the log when it had to be reset. But I'm going to move the Buffalo in question from WPA mode to WEP mode to see if that helps. I still wonder if there's something about my WPA settings that is causing the problem. The...

Re: Wireless connection droppping on RB951-2n

It just happened again. I ran home and copied the log to Notepad before rebooting. The device in question has a MAC ending in :CA. 92 Jun/26/2012 11:55:04 memory wireless, info 00:16:01:70:63:CA@wlan2: disconnected, group key exchange timeout There are other messages in the log but don't mention tha...

Wireless connection droppping on RB951-2n

I've had a new 951-2n set up as an access point/router for a week now but it has not been stable. In particular, it drops wireless connections. I notice somebody else mentioning wireless drops in the 5.18 thread, and this hasn't been mentioned in the 5.17 or 5.18 release notes. The 951-2n came new w...

Re: Confugure simple client-side bridge using RB951-2n?

Yes, thanks. I think I am mostly there. It is now working as a bridge. The one thing that I seem to have screwed up is the IP address. Last time I tried to change it away from .88.1, things got all confused, as the computer I was connected to lost its own IP address (the Ethernet cord was providing ...

Confugure simple client-side bridge using RB951-2n?

I've just acquired two RB951-2ns and am starting to get my hands dirty with RouterOS. The first one was set up to replace a Linksys AP. This works well enough -- I would not recommend it to an ordinary consumer, since there's no consumer-type documentation, but I understand networking well enough my...

Re: [Req - SOFTWARE] Create Coverage Map of Wireless Netwrok

One thing to note about MyWifiCoverage and RadioMobile -- they're basically the same thing underneath. RadioMobile is the free product. It's incredibly powerful, but takes some time to learn and to get the settings right for your application. MyWifiCoverage is the new pay-to-use version by the same ...

R52Hn in 5825-5850 MHz?

I'd just like to verify some details about the R52Hn. Certain vendors (no names ;-) ) do not support the upper 25 MHz of the US 5.8 GHz band (FCC Part 15.247). This can make it harder to find clean frequencies. Does the R52Hn go up there? The brochure doesn't say, though another MT card did say that...
