Re: Newsletter #116 | January 2024

CRS is a switch, why do you need RAM at all in there ? We need more ram for many reasons: * Holding larger routing table (a backbone for example), some systems are running low on memory and are banished from the backbone because they don't have enough memory to actually use them. Sadly enough, thes...

V6.35rc42 with cm2 package and capsman also results in regularly wifi latency spikes to 1 sec and 2 seconds.

Reverting back the CAPSMAN to v6.34.3 while leaving the caps on v6.35rc42 resolves this latency spike issue. We use centralised forwarding on CCR

Unfortunately, on streakwave the price difference for us between the 750g and 750gl is only $5. Not hardly worth the reduced speed imo.

Because it's a cheaper part, making the hardware cheaper and lowering the price for the end user. Yes, but it also lowers performance and I don't think the price difference between those two cpu's is that big. I would be happy to pay a few $$ more if the device was equipped with a faster cpu like t...

Re: Hotspot / external loginpage working but small issue.

ADD: That is not really true now that I think about it. The login form submission link might generate a "not secure" warning if you don't have ssl on the router hotspot. That form url would be "http://x.x.x.x". Indeed Tim, that was the problem, posting back to the MT doing only ...

Re: Hotspot / external loginpage working but small issue.

The Hotspot cannot intercept HTTPS sites and pretend to be them and issue a redirect - that would cause a certificate error for the client. It's all in how the Hotspot does its actual work. Yes, you'd need certificates on each router. Really that isn't too much of a problem in the real world. Eithe...

Re: Hotspot / external loginpage working but small issue.

If you're using CHAP the router you're submitting to doesn't use https. To test, everywhere you're referring to $loginlinkonly in PHP refer to a static string of https://example.org/login instead. Does the error still show up? About http-chap, I would love to only login by https, but then I need a ...

Re: Hotspot / external loginpage working but small issue.

The browser is detecting that you have a secure page that either includes resources from non-secure pages (images, JavaScript, CSS etc. loaded via http rather than https on the page), or that you're submitting to an http server rather than https in your form target. Ok, I sure submit to a https ser...

Re: Hotspot / external loginpage working but small issue.

Ok, a little bit further. I found out that the http-chap was failing coz magic_quotes were on on my php server. I added the php function to replace the slashes and it was working. Now I can login with login-by=http-chap set. Before it only worked when http-pap was enabled, so this is solved. BUT, I ...

Re: Hotspot / external loginpage working but small issue.

Hi Tim, I will experiment a little more here and come back to you. Btw I remember to see your nickname some years ago on the chillispot forums. I still have a lot of chillispot nas's out there. What I eventually want to do is use the same hotspotlogin.php for chillispot and Mikrotik nas's. I tried i...

Re: Hotspot / external loginpage working but small issue.

Tnx, but as soon as i disable http-pap, i get authentication failed. Radius part sure is ok. I followed examples in the wiki for setting up the ext. loginpage, but redirect to a https loginpage. That's the only difference for the moment. I don't want to install a local ssl cert on the router as i do...

Hotspot / external loginpage working but small issue.

Hi, I've been experimenting with the MT hotspot and external loginpage. (external server does https, so i got redirected to https://x.x.x.x/mtlogin.php) I got it working, though on login the browser spits a security warning: "However this page is secured, all information you've entered will be ...

Re: Add a script?

Use HTTPS instead. Much easier to administer than various CHAP implementations. Ah ok, you brought some light here. My uam server does https, but now I realize that in my tests login-by http-chap was set in the hotspot profile instead of https. So I will change: /ip hotspot profile set X login-by=h...

Re: Add a script?

Ok, thx for the confirmation about the scripts. About remote loginpage: yes, username and password, but there's also the chapid used to encrypt te password. And it's that encryption/decryption that is handled differently between chillispot and MT. Need to investigate it all further, but time oohh ti...

Re: Add a script?

Backup and restore is made to be used on the same router, or router model that it was taken on. Uploading it to a different model will make a partially broken configuration. We use /export and send ourselves and e-mail every week with the current configuration to work as our backup. /export generat...

Re: Add a script?

If you're pining for vi, you'll like the CLI better, anyway. And too right. Winbox is alright for monitoring since it refreshes values in near real time. The CLI is way better for applying configuration. True, I played with winbox before to configure a RB750, but swapped to cli soon :-) On the othe...

Re: Add a script?

@Janisk: Tnx for the tip.

@forne: I did it on a rb450G from console (somehow I can't connect with winbox to that device, but I didn't try very hard yet) :-)
I will keep your tip in mind, tnx.

Kind regards
