No SXT/LHG devices with low-band antennas, no SXT/LHG devices with M.2 support.
I'm within 15km of multiple B28 cell towers and the stock SXT antennas do not pick them up.

Re: LHGG - change modem for CAT12/16?

1) 2x2, same as the SXT
2) not really, also see #4
3) not sure but most Quectel modems are supported
4) no, the modem is M.2 so you’d need a M.2 to mPCIe adapter which most likely won’t fit in the LHG

SXT doesn’t have gain information on the product page. The inclusion of B28 is nice, but I suspect the unit still uses the original antennas which are next to useless for B28.

Newer SXT design VS original

My 10+ year old SXT Lite2 died so I replaced it with the newer SXTsq Lite2. Anyone else find the design rubbish? The cutout hole for the cable is far too small for any proper outdoor rated cable. The mount is also non-existent. Using a hose clamp isn’t a mount, you can’t get them tight enough to a p...

For tough to place locations, I suggest DC cable extender like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000958018795.html

I’ve since switched to two Revie Flex (EFF6060A3S-15MHF1) antennas with Quectel EP06. Much better signal than the other one.

It would be terrific if MikroTik make a SXT with a better antenna.

Try fitting two outdoor rated cables. The whole SXT design from cable entry to opening isn’t the best.

If speed isn’t important, just stick with the MikroTik modem or the Quectel EC25-AU — both are Cat4 but the EC25 supports B28 which is handy for Telstra if your local tower has it.

Both are under $100 new. Try eBay/Gumtree for a used modem.

It'd be great Normis if you could have another SXT LTE with an antenna specifically for lower bands. Despite being advertised for rural locations, the device won't connect 10km from a tower since the gain is too poor for 700Mhz.

Depends on what speeds you need. What reception figures do you get now (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR)?
If you have no obstructions and okay reception now, then either device should do the trick.

Nice mate! Finding a modem that works with LTE and not PPP with B28 + Telstra is perfect.
I don't suppose you could tell me where in Australia you got the card and what firmware is on it?

What speeds you getting with the modem?

Not sure if you'd want to use it for a new system since it is now obsolete. Might be worth picking one up on eBay to save taping pins on the MC74XX series?

If it isn't listed in that Wiki article, chances are MikroTik haven't tested it. A quick forum search shows this is the only question about the eM680-950.
You'd just have to buy it and see, then send a support output file when it won't work. Not ideal or cheap.

No idea about the Basebox, sorry.

You can pair USB modems or mPCIe modems to most RouterBoards. I've paired the Sierra Wireless/Netgear 312U and 320U to a RB711 and currently use the 320U and SW MC7304 with the RB912.
