Feature request:Vmware support - vmwaretools package

Vmware esxi runs Mikrotik as a vm but as discussed in some threads it has performance issues since vmware-tools is not installable to Mikrotik.

May be a vmware-tools package produced by Mikrotik can be easily deployed. We can have Routeros inside the esxi/esx, close to native performance.

I've tried both 750 and 750G to use metarouter on them. RB750 has no chance to run a vm on it. It may be just for fun. For 750G it may be practical but your necessities must be very low. Only thing i can say you should install as low packages as you can and don't use winbox or ssh to manage the box....

Create a simple que running on the vpn interface and check it's traffic stats each minute. Whenever it's reached your limit disable the vpn interface or erase it, etc.

I'm trying to tell that Openwrt can work on another platform with 256MB without any problem.

The topic is related to Metarouter and yes i'm aware of that it has a problem with the given condition.

We can compile 17511 revision of Openwrt trunk.

Openwrt does not support 2.6.27.21 kernel revision in new trunk releases and i think that's where we all stuck compiling the new trunks. Go with the 17511.

I can run Openwrt with 128MB without any problem in Routerboard 450G.

We also tried Openwrt on a x86 system with 256MB and it runs (bare-metal install, no virt.) without any problem.

Hi Janisk,

If you set the memory more than 128Mbyte, i.e. 129Mbyte, it will generate the problem.

I'll be happy if it is solved by the release of 4.4.

No shell in Metarouter if memory is more than 128Mbytes

If i set the memory of a Metarouter with Openwrt more than 128Mbytes, shell doesn't come up after booting.

All the boot messages are shown properly and i can see that memory has been recognized by the system, but you can not get in to shell anymore by pressing enter.

Any thoughts on that?

Another interesting thing about RB750G. It does have a default firmware numbered 3.31 which can not be seen on download site or release notes. Is it some syntax error or is it really exist?

I've received my RB750G and interestingly my RB750 configuration backup file did not worked on that.

It takes time me to understand that ethernet ports are in reverse order. Taking out ethernet cables and putting them in reverse places fixed issue.

Version is 3.22 and cpu does not support kvm. I've tried linux and xen on the same board it worked. I think some compile options may prevent Mikrotik's Xen kernel to boot on that.

We're already using 450G and very happy with that. We can not user metarouter in 32Meg and that's the problem for 750G (We tried on Routerboard 450). Also price wise 750G is cheaper with it's cute case and he has a happy power adapter :) in it's box.

It's awesome but they don't increase the memory size while increasing cpu and port speeds. Should be at least 64Meg to do descent stuff on it.

I'm using Dude 3.0rc3 to monitor some devices. When an email sent from dude the cc part of the header is avoided. I receive the mail for the to address but not in the email for cc field. Is it a bug or anybody using this function succesfully?

On the routers scan list i put the configured frequency and it worked. Thanks to Mikrotik support.

Well it's obvious. What i ment was for that specific string "You have received an e-card" we may mark that connection and discard it. There's is a similar subject although i'm not very sure same procedure apply to that spam bombing.

Problem solved. MTU

Thanks for the warning about MTU.

I can not imagine why that kind of adjustment needed with mangle for the mss value but i saw on the posts that is the solution.
