Re: Gigabit Ethernet not working with RB2011 and Apple iMac Pro 2017

Since then I have switched to an RB4011 which works fine with the iMac Pro in question. Probably an undocumented incompatibility between the AQuantia AQtion AQC107-AFW adapter and the Atheros8327 switch chip in the RB2011. Also - just a side note - this adapter works flawlessly with the S+RJ10 SFP+ ...

100M full-duplex. There is some data flowing in both directions (a few frames per sec) but the mac can't even get an IP from the DHCP.

Re: Gigabit Ethernet not working with RB2011 and Apple iMac Pro 2017

Update: i've booted a Windows 10 instance on the iMac Pro using Bootcamp and it's still not working so I'd say it's not an OS or driver related problem. I've tried changing various settings on the adapter's control panel in Windows without any luck. I also tried to enable debug logging in WinBox hop...

Re: Gigabit Ethernet not working with RB2011 and Apple iMac Pro 2017

You checked that the 8 pins of your cable are OK? If your cable is made on the fabric, anyway test it. Yes, of course. I've mentioned that I tried an external USB-C adapter and I used the same cable and it worked fine on Gigabit. I've used a fully wired 3 meters long CAT6 cable, it should not be a ...

Gigabit Ethernet not working with RB2011 and Apple iMac Pro 2017

Hi, I try to connect an iMac Pro (which has a 10G AQuantia AQtion AQC107-AFW Ethernet adapter) to a Gigabit port on a RB2011UAS-2HnD. The issue is that after a somewhat longer auto negotiation phase (~10 sec) the link speed is set to 100 Mbps. According to the status page of the Ethernet port, the r...

Re: RB1100 Ether ports flapping

Probably this answer is a bit late but this issue can be caused by the faulty Atheros 8316 switch IC which causes router freezes on RB450G/493G boards? This IC dies under heavy load and only resetting the chip or the board itself solves the problem.

Firewall and queue optimization

Dear Community, I have an RB2011UAS-2HnD router used as my home router. Its setup contains many firewall filter and magle rules, and a queue tree setup. The router is connected to the Internet via PPPoE on e10-wan (ether10). The WAN connection speed is 44Mbit download and 22Mbit upload. There is a N...

I have tested the switch (normal usage over a few months long) and it seems fine to me. No stability or speed issues. I can easily run iperf going at a full gigabit a second for say 30 minutes without a problem. The same with copying 120GB from one port to the other using CIFS. Further on the wirel...

Re: hardware issues with rb4xx

In addition, many RBs that have the Atheros 8316 switch (like RB450G, RB493G etc.) suffer from ethernet interface failures under heavy load that makes these boards more unreliable. And definitely this issue cannot be fixed by software updates.

Did someone try the latest 6.0beta3 ROS on an RB435G/RB450G? Is the switch chip still freezes under heavy load? The changelog indicates that there is a new kernel in that release and drivers were updated.

Edit: the issue still exists.

RB450G has the problem, too. Seems to be related to the Atheros 8316. After 2 minutes of full load (Gbit traffic between 2 ports) the switch stops working.

Re: Will there be an RB451G?

if you have RB450G still in place, you can try by reducing cpu speed to 400MHz that will be the same as RB7501G regarding speed.
I just measured it and at about 60 Mbps the CPU load was 100% and about the half of this usage was queuing so this CPU speed is simply not enough for such bandwidth. :(

Re: Will there be an RB451G?

we have not tested exactly that, but you can try. After all it has around 370Mbps throughput with firewall/conntrack and routing

swtich is wirespeed.
And how much is the speed drop if I use queue trees (+many firewall mangle rules) for QoS purposes?

what about RB751G, however it has integrated radio. I saw that and it looks much weaker than RB450G (slower CPU, slower switch throughput) and I'm not sure if it can handle my 80 Mbps PPPoE WAN connection. I tried to make a configuration based on your solution using a pfifo and a different method for packet marking and it seems to be working. I had to adjust the pfifo size to 10000 to let the router handle a larger traffic.

Re: Downlink and uplink traffic shaping

@Oldman: i have tried your solution but it's still not working as expected. When p2p is running at maximum speed, HTTP download is very slow. I can see the correct speed values in the queue tree so packet marking is OK.

In my opinion there is no need to worry about wearing out the flash. On most RouterBoards the RouterOS is stored in the on-board NAND flash and working without a problem.

I found another symptom. So probably there is a problem with folder handling. The si...
