ADSL modem recommendations

We'd like to replace our ADSL modem/router combo with a Mikrotik router + ADSL modem. I know that Mikrotik doesn't have any hardware with ADSL support and I already saw this thread about ADSL modems: http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=66309 I know that ADSL is poor man's internet in m...

Re: Assign IP based on Ethernet port number connected

One more question. In another test setup, we'd like to assign IP addresses based on the last octet of the MAC address.

For example, for any MAC address xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-1A, assign 192.168.87.26 (26 == 0x1A).

Is that possible, and if so how?

Re: Assign IP based on Ethernet port number connected

Great, thanks. Yes, we will only be connecting one device per port. Cables will be routed from the router to slots in a rack, and the idea is to know which cable, and therefore which slot in the rack, a device is plugged into.

Assign IP based on Ethernet port number connected

Hi, I'd like to set up a DHCP server on a Mikrotik device which assigns an IP address based on which Ethernet interface the device is connected to. Which RB models support this, and how would I configure this? For example, say I had an RB493 (8 ports) running RouterOS. I'd like to configure so that ...

openvpn client will trust any root certificate?

Hi, The certificate we were using for openvpn was about to expire, so I generated a self-signed root certificate and a new certificate for our VPN. As expected, I needed to install the new root certificate on our Windows machines using the OpenVPN client. However, I did NOT need to install the new r...

RSTP required?

This is more of a general networking question than a RouterOS question, but I hope somebody can help me. We are monitoring a set of remote devices over a bridge (TAP) OpenVPN setup (see the rough diagram). There is an RB750 running the OpenVPN server and handing out IP addresses. Then some RB411 rou...

Re: RB411U - hard reset command?

Normis, that would be much appreciated. Janisk, I already updated it to the the latest version, and unfortunately it didn't fix the issue. Using the same SIM card with a different make of router and different model of modem, we see a very similar problem. So it seems it's an issue with either our ne...

Re: RB411U - hard reset command?

Just looking at the list of devices supported by the RB750UP: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:PoE-Out I notice the RB411U isn't in that list, but the specs of the RB411U say it has PoE support. Can anybody confirm that this will work before I order an RB750UP? Any other things to look out for? ...

Re: RB411U - hard reset command?

Thanks for the replies. uldis, when the problem occurs, the card doesn't seem to respond to any AT commands on the serial terminal. It may just be faulty (it's the first one we've tried), and we have some more on order (a newer model, but still Sierra), so we'll see if what happens. Hotz, thanks for...

RB411U - hard reset command?

Hi all. Three questions: 1) Is there any way to "hard reset" the RB411U from the console interface? 2) Does the USB power reset command on the RB411UAHR reset power to the miniPCI-E module as well? 3) Failing these, does anyone have any recommendations for external hardware to reset power ...
