Am I safe to follow the steps illustrated in the Youtube video I linked in my first post? That is nice and graphic which helps a lot. :) Thank you! Hi Rudios / All, Could anyone co...

Re: Mikrotik RB951G-2HnD as a switch

Hi Rudios, Thanks for the quick response! Sure it is possible, just clear the config of R2 with no defaults. Create a new bridge and put all ports as member of put port port1 as a master for port 2-5 Maybe for easy maintenance access, assign an IP address to either port 1 or the new created bridge (...

Mikrotik RB951G-2HnD as a switch

Dear All, Let me start by saying that I am no expert, though the question will give that fact away anyway. I have two RB951G-2HnDs routers out of which I only use one as a regular router (Router 1). The second one (Router 2) has been just collecting dust. I ran out of Ethernet ports on Router 1 and ...

Re: How to check what IP generating so much traffic?

Well, You see. The problem about DNS amplifications is that they are more a misuse of services than an invasion. It is like an open email relay: your server is not exactly being attacked - it is being misused. You left a service open to the internet, and someone decided to (mis)use it. Doesn't make...

Re: How to check what IP generating so much traffic?

You can right click the interface and choose Torch to see the traffic in real time and identify what it is (make sure to enable port and protocol numbers).
Thanks R1CH. Right now the attacks are gone.

Re: How to check what IP generating so much traffic?

Yes, that's the one. But if you already have it... must be something else. It is enabled, right? If it is enabled, do like R1CH said: run a torch on the interface (don't forget to enable protocols and port numbers), and find out what it is. You can find the torch option under /tools torch. I had th...

Re: How to check what IP generating so much traffic?

Hi Paternot, Thanks so much for explaining all this. Well, a DNS amplification attack is when someone uses your machine to flood someone's else with DNS responses. First they (the miscreants) must find your machine, and verify that it is open to this attack. This is made by bots, crawling the entire...

Re: How to check what IP generating so much traffic?

Like always here. Dns amplification attack. Why you can't read all other threads with the same symptoms and implement firewall rules that block incoming connections to port 53? Your firewall is unsecure if you need this. Hi Jarda, Thank you very much for your reply. Now that you pointed me in the r...

How to check what IP generating so much traffic?

Dear All, I have been using an RB951G-2HnD for 3 years now without any issues. However, since last weekend the internet has become slow all of a sudden so I started investigating. If I bypass the router and the broadband cable directly into my my notebook, then the speed is a 100% fine so it has som...

PPP redial interval

Hi, Is there a way to manually set the time interval between redial attempts the PPP interface makes when it's trying to establish connection? I have seen such feature requests back from 2013 but I am not sure if this was ever implemented. When there is no connection, its redial attempts are way too...

Re: Mikrotik RB951G-2HnD stalls, slow response time, drops wifi

In the meanwhile you can netinstall the original router as it's very possible its nvram just went bad (specially if it has suffered power outages) and doing that will put it back to working condition; RB951G-2HnD is a wonderful device. Thanks for the suggestions, I will do that. Let me try things f...

Re: Mikrotik RB951G-2HnD stalls, slow response time, drops wifi

Is that an actual export from the running router? Do you get a 192.168.2.x address when connecting to witopia-wifi? If so, the problem could be here : /ip route add disabled=yes distance=2 gateway=WitopiaVPN routing-mark=WiTraffic go to IP > routes and enable it. That was the actual export from the...

Do you mean that no traffic is seen on the VPN ppp interface?? That is correct. The secondary wifi (let's call it VPN wifi for short) was originally set so that all traffic goes through the VPN ppp interface. But now when I connect to the VPN wifi, the traffic is not channeled through the VPN ppp f...

Yes, I did reset via Winbox ticking the without default field. You were right, pasting into Notepad was the problem. Using Wordpad instead seems to have got me a step closer.
