Re: Need help with spammers/viruses

Just a note: I have found that "drop" is the only defense against the spambots. If you use "reject", the best you can hope for is a standoff with a virus-infected machine. Both machines will eat all your bandwidth with request-reject messages. Make the little suckers wait for a ...

Re: upgrade without available space

Uninstall packages not needed, then upload just the minimum (system, etc) to boot on your network. Then install the rest of the new packages. If these are onboard flash, like RB112, look at bad blocks and the files directory to see why you are short of space.

Possible. Had one fried by lightning. Board ran okay just not that port. Used for testing now; wouldn't trust it with a paying client.

Been there. :) Netinstall will work 100% for us by using a standalone PC with only one network interface (no wlan) forced to 10Mbps. Use a static IP and connect directly to the router.

On the other hand, an Ipod portable router is a cool idea. Maybe an Iphone runnig MT as a Pocket HotSpot.

Runing beta8 RB112 test setup about 40 feet one of my towers. DFS mode=no radar detect. If I watch the status while enabling the interface the frequency will change several times and settle. This matches the best that the scan shows. In my tests it picks a frequency with less than -95 of other APs.

Wlan1 is an AP, wlan2 is station-wds. What won't connect where? Some outside client or AP? You should change wlan2 radardetect=none. And wlan2 will only connect to a MT master.

Do a /system routerboard upgrade. You might need to manually reboot. The upgrade command should reboot for you (per docs) but doesn't for me.

Since at least beta2, on RB112s with AR5211 as AP, if a wireless setting is changed some clients (Cisco 350 is one) will not reassociate untill the client card is disabled then enabled. 00:16:00 wireless, info 00:0A:F4:4A:1E:32@wlan1: reassociating 00:16:00 wireless, info 00:0A:F4:4A:1E:32@wlan1: disc...

In your diagram, the wraps are configured to bridge so unless you have firewall rules everything is open by default. Port forwarding to each private ip is set on the Linksys.

Thanks Sam, now I need /int wireless reset-mac for my wireless interfaces. sometimes that radio name gets the MAC - is that still the original radio name or has it been changed? I didn't realize that the reset-mac was only for wired cards... oh well. Sam When I used the /export file to make a clone...

Might be getting somewhere. Did an upgrade on a WRAP to beta2 with two AR5211 cards. We use no-radar-detect on the AP side. Despite the band set at 2.4, the frequency gets set to 917MHz (tri-band card anyone?). Turning off DFS fixes that one. Do you try no CSMA/CA backoff option ? High Regards, And...

Interface MAC Addresses

Okay, so you can change the MAC of an interface to just about anything. How can the original MAC be "read" back if you don't know it, aside from /sys reset?

Add another to Mike's "Don'ts": Cloning devices with an export without taking ALL the extra stuff out...

Tried a fresh install on a 112. AR5211 cards don't seem to function (although report ready) and CPU is at 100%.

GotNet, do you have any specific configuration on RB112 ? I have tried 3.0beta2 on my RB112, previously 2.9.34 was installed, then I upgrade router to 3.0beta2 by uploading packages to the FTP and reboot (regular upgrade). RouterOS3 loaded successfuly on my RB112. Two 5211 cards with nat/masq and s...
