Stops at "Starting services..."

I have an RB 532 that suddenly started giving "could not get roting2.dll" errors when I tried accessing it with Winbox. SSH did not work, and neither did MAC Telnet from another RB. It was routing everything fine, but we could not go in to change something. This seemed to be a random CPU o...

Re: OSPF Route Distribution and Fall-over Issues

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep that reset method in mind. Even thought it looks like resources are fine, it may be that things are happening in spikes that go by before the resource report shows them. To address possible resource issues, I am working on how to break things up into 2+ areas. It look...

I can't access router via their mac address MAC addresses only apply when dealing with a layer 2 connection, like two devices connected to the same switch. As for the ... button, it also can be limited to things connected to the same switch. Are you behind more than one router? Or are you behind on...

OSPF Route Distribution and Fall-over Issues

My apologies in advance. This is a long post due to the nature of how long it has taken me to discover just where I have a problem, and the fact that I don't have many thought on how to solve the problem. I am trying to cover any potential questions in advance. We have had trouble with OSPF for a wh...

Are you sure the issue is the card, and not the BIOS? If it won't allow an init13 boot loader to be loaded, that would cause issues. Did you just stick it in and try it, or did you also disable the onboard SATA? If your card is old enough, IRQ jumpers/conflict. Oh, and might try a LINUX distro and s...

OK. Now I understand.

You stated it just fine, I read it wrong.

Have you tried using a cable where the power pairs are not terminated? If that makes it work, then your injector may be feeding power out both sides.

A VOM could tell you the same thing.

So the router is off, you plug it in and it shorts?

Or is there something I am missing?

I was playing around with the windows version of the bandwidth tester myself, and got some very odd results that did not match with doing simple FTP tests through the same paths.

Interesting. Well, I did nothing special in Ethereal, but who knows if they made any changes when they built Packetyzer.

As for only seeing things from the remote capture, you can filter for that.

Yes, you can.

You would need to find out what ports that MSN Messenger works on. Then you can use queues to prioritize all traffic, and give the MSNM queue a higher priority (lower number) than the other traffic.

Is that the one that is a re-packaged Ethereal? I think so. For Ethereal, you just start sending on the MikroTik end, and start capturing on the local end. In Winbox, Tools > Packet Sniffer. Go to settings, and set up the streaming. That will send the packets you sniff on the MT to some destination....

QoS Shaping Question

I am looking at some complex queues to control P2P software, improve QoS, and shape bandwidth on a per user basis. First I am doing a connection mark and passthrough to allow me to tag the assorted traffic. This just does the basic separation of traffic types. Then I mark and accept the users traffi...

Are you sure OSPF is dying? Is there any chance that OSPF is working, but not doing what you intend it to do? If OSPF is just failing to work as you think it should, you could post an export of your OSPF configurations, with some notes as to what is hooked up to what, and how. Then people could look...

I have been using MikroTik RouterOS as a transparent bandwidth shaper and P2P controller for some time. All of this is being done with bridged ports. The existing topology is this: Access points at different sites connect to a mix of router ...
