Can not get Netinstall to Install packages or routeros.

I get the routers to show up in Netinstall and choose my packages but when I press Install it does nothing. The “Ready” will disappear for around 5 seconds then come back up. I’ve tried it on two computers now. I’ve tried even Netinstalling different routers that I know are working but it won’t install the packages or the routeros. I’ve looked up guides and read the wiki. Maybe I’m just overlooking something simple.

I’m trying to unbrick some SXT routers that are stuck in a continuous boot loop. I can take some screenshots for you guys if that will help.

I’ve also opened a ticket with mikrotik support but have not got a response in over a week.

had a similar problem once and this is what i did:

  • disable “ALL” other network interfaces, including vpn, virtualbox, wirerless, etc
    disable all firewall
    disable all anti-virus
make sure you have a good cable
configure pc NIC for static IP, i.e. 192.168.88.10/255.255.255.0, dont need gateway
make sure net booting settings are correct in netinstall, i.e. use 192.168.88.10 for pc
    run net install
press reset button and hold in
power up router while holding reset button in as per above

I just had the same issue…

Did you connect te router directly to your PC? If so, connect it via a switch…
Windows doesn’t always bring up the NIC when there is no link…

Hey guys thanks for the ideas! This worked out for me.

What I did was programmed a RB951 as a plain switch and ran the SXT through that. Netinstall worked flawlessly after I was going through the switch!

It’s weird how one month netinstall will work just fine and then nothing seems to work.

Thanks again!!

You’re welcome…

Hi, other way is use windows xp… I always get troubles with win7 64 bit but I have a notebook for that.

Regards!!

I’m using windows 10. Whats weird is that I was able to netinstall before on this same laptop a while back. Just recently tried to fix these routers and was only able to get netinstall to work by going through a different mikrotik which was setup as a switch.

This helped me on Windows 10 too.
This is absolutely baffling - netinstall sees the device but did nothing when I clicked install.

This is the symptom of a very common netinstall problem with an easy solution in most cases.
