Good signal, low noise, no link

Some times the link works, some times it doesn’t.

It is not working now and the signal is -76, noise is -103. What more information do I need to provide to figure this beast out?

2.9.17 on both sides

Hammy, what configuration for wireless you have at both routers ?

Tell us something about the link.
Is it line of sight, or near line of sight.
Are there trees in the path, or is it subject to thermal inversions, or near the coast… for example.
What times of day does the link disapear?

Im fighting a similar problem with a longer distance link, where it seems better in the afternoon. Its near an airport, with civilian and defense
activities.. It should be Line of sight, but the signal varies from -75db
to nothing … so we’re going through similar problems in analysing the problems..

check for interference, change frequency, check for nearby installations, cable, connections, water in cables, atenna, alignment, etc.

Radio Mobile says the link should have -60 db from AP to client and -69 db from client to AP, so I have to figure out where about 20 db is missing from both sides of the link, but that doesn’t explain why I can’t stay connected with a valid signal… Well, I guess since one direction of the link is within 5 - 10 db of the drop off point on the card, that would cause it to drop when conditions changed.

There are no bodies of water, except for a small creek that is usually dry anyway. There are some trees without leaves on them that I don’t believe are tall enough to make a difference (I’d say they’re about 10 feet tall. I’m 25 - 30 feet up on the tower and the land slopes down maybe 15 feet from the tower to the trees.) From where the client is mounted, I can see several feet (maybe even 15 - 20) below where the sector is mounted. The link is 3.24 km long.

I don’t have a good log of signal strengths at the moment, but

MT reports the noise floor as -95 to -110 (or something like that). The frequency usage graph doesn’t show much at all. We’ve changed frequencies around (the whole 5 GHz band in 5 MHz steps) and didn’t get much out of it. Will the MT pick up noise from Canopy, Trango, Redline, etc. as well, or only 802.11 based products?

The alignment is about as good as its going to get. I’m thinking about ordering new cables to swap them out.

if these products work in 5ghz it may interference with your instalation.

Well yes, that’s why I was wondering if noise floor and freq. usage would see them.

John Tully wrote the following explanation on noise-floor during the last few days here:

Noise-floor does take into account everything “not 802.11”. I.e. everything “RF” in the frequency range which does not look like an 802.11 frame.

Cmit, I have a major problem in my links, i have installed a router os on a pc and put it on a rooftop and this router is main station for all my network, PS. the router was working fine, but now it is disconnecting each hour aprox and send the the facing router message, (3)or “more” event supressed, deauths and things like that. do you anything on this problem or how to solve it???

Then why does my link with Tx\Rx signals from -75 to -80 and a noise floor of -102 not get more than 2 megabits (average of 1 megabit) of throughput? It is on a 20 MHz channel. CPU usage when going that 2 megabits is about 40%. The AP side is only a couple percent.

Hammy

Try uppdate to 2.9.20 it solved my problem with disconects with -75 db,
now i have a stabel connection

//Rickard

Today I upgraded to 2.9.19. In a few days I’ll upgrade to 2.9.20. I try to wait a week after release just incase there’s a big bug.

I think the 2.9.20 is the most stable relase this year . I have upgrade 30Ptp links and 30 Ap cells. and everything is running perfect
and tomorow i will uppgrade 150 CPE units to 2.9.20

hehe, seems to me you missed scan-list=default,5810 @ sta
no bug at all

I’m confused.

Mee too  i have no bugs att all …

i have fixed my problem till now, i have changed the RDam Slot And i think it is working now
