Hi there,
happy to find this thread as I roughly the same challenge.
I’m going to adapt the existing FTTH installation to allow to network independent 9 endpoints.
I think as got I’m quite close to ordering the components. The only think what causes me still headaches it to chose the right SFP Transceiver Modules.
-
Which ones of those available at FS.com are the right ones for MikroTik using either LC/APC or LC/PC Fibre Optic Patch Lead?
MikroTik is almost not listed as a brand in “Compatible” -
There multiple choices of “Transceiver Type”, even for the linked ones, earlier in this thread. How to choose the right one?

It is recommended to use duplex fibre optic to connected switches and router to each other in a small network or is simples sufficient?
Here is my current material list for clarification: -
9 existing singlemode FTTH fibres, with 4 wires each will be cut and connected to a spliced fibre enclosure
The fibres are 125 μm in a yellow 2 mm FTTH cable
The enclosure will be:
- 1 or 2 x 1U 144 Fibers Rack Mount FHD High-Density Fiber Enclosure Unloaded, with Tool-less Removable Top Panel, Holds up to 4x FHD Cassettes or Panels - FS Germany (two if one enclosure is too dense for my electrician)
- few of these fibres will be connected to a router but don’t if I go for simple one or straight for a powerful one (or somewhere in between):
- The router connects to one or two switches:
- main switch, it will do the switching between the 9 endpoints:
CRS328-4C-20S-4S+RM, Smart Switch, 20 x SFP cages, 4 x SFP+ cages, 4 x Combo ports (Gigabit Ethernet or SFP)- PoE switch, this will power a 2N intercom system with 9 (to 11) devices. This is tricky as PoE functionality is quite scattered across the devices. Either:
- I use the PoE out of the Router what put extra load on him (occasionally but the rest to the network may suffer)
- 8x Gigabit Ethernet Smart Switch with PoE-out, 4x SFP cages, 400MHz CPU, 128MB RAM, limited max total out.
- netPower 16P, An outdoor 18 port switch with 16 Gigabit PoE-out ports and 2 SFP+ stronger machine but limited max total out, too.
- CRS328-24P-4S+RM, 24 port Gigabit Ethernet router/switch with four 10Gbps SFP+ ports in 1U rackmount case, Dual Boot and PoE output, 500W strong, many ports but not cheap.
- the main switch will be connected to spliced fibre enclosure, using
- from the spliced fibre enclosure nine pigtails will be used to connect to each endpoint
- 9 x LC/SC/FC/ST/LSH Single Mode Fibre Optic Pigtail - FS Germany customized as:
- Cable Types - Bunch
- Fiber Grade - G.657.A1
- Fiber Count - 4 Fibers
- Connector - LC APC
- Cable Jacket - LSZH
- Cable Diameter - 2.0mm
- Length - 50m (164ft)
- at each endpoint will be an LC to LC Single Mode Fibre Optic Adapter, Quad - FS Germany
