5.23 released!

Wed Jan 30, 2013 11:09 am

What's new in 5.23 (2013-Jan-29 14:07):

*) lcd - changed gamma, which gives greater contrast
*) fix reboot when running on third party hypervisors;
*) ppp client - fixed possible loss of configuration after reboot for some modems;
*) fixed wifi led order on "SXT Lite5";
*) wireless - improved nv2;

Do we need to have 5.23 on Ap and client to see the the improvments on nv2 or is sufficient about the ap only.

You need to install v5.23 on both: AP and Clients in order to improve the Nv2 stability.

5.23 released!

Wed Jan 30, 2013 11:58 am

I got a 5.23 from support about 2 weeks ago, and have seen 5.23rc1 on the forum. Is this the final 5.23?

It would be less confusing if you released 5.24, but I guess that the numbers are running out ;)

Final. If someone from MT team publishes info about new version – it's final.

and after that every time my router power up I see this windows and all of my configuration was lost
I try downgrade to 5.12 that before it work about 3 month , but the router again show routerOS default configuration .

iman230, make sure reset jumper hole (http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Password_reset) is clean and both sides are not connected with metallic object. It can make configuration reset on every reboot.

I made this upgrade to my 2011UAS-2HnD couple hours ago and everything went well and looked fine after upgrade, but now I noticed that all my Wireless Security Profiles (2 with different options) had disappeared and my both wlans were totally unsecured.. Yesterday they were there (I know this 100% sure because I joined new device to wlan and it asked password), so I'm pretty sure that the upgrade caused this.

This is not good thing at all, has anyone else experienced same?

I have the same model. My experience with it something like 3 or 4 weeks. After buying it, upgraded till to v6. I have something like 40 clients through PPPoE, local network, of course both NATed to ISP, one PPTP tunnel, and FTP server through USB port, and about 8 firewall rules.... Working perfect for me.

Remarks and inconvenience: 3G USB Router starting only after unplugging and plugging 220.....USB storages needs to be formated in to a its own file system, which is not realy usable thing.....and the USB drives like USB esternal H.D.D. with USB power, doesn't have enough power to start (intend to change the power supply to the more powerful tomorrow).

By the way all of my settings I did under v5.21, after that upgraded till to v6. Nothing lost. Anyway I did a backup before upgrade, suggest to do this all the time then you decide to do something to you ROS

I had backup too, but I just didn't noticed that one thing after upgrade.. And this problem was very easy to fix anyway. I just don't like the idea that my home network was totally open several hours.. and it was only lucky coincidence that I noticed it so fast. I started to wonder why my laptop shows my wlan-ssid twice. Quite quickly I figured the reason.. another AP (OpenWRT) was ok and using PSK as it should, but another one (Mikrotik) was totally open. It caused (luckily) that the same ssid was recognized to two different wlan networks.

It would be smart choise for Mikrotik-people to develop some kind of safety mechanism for situations like this. I don't care if my wlan doesn't work immediately after upgrade, but I don't want to compromise my security! It's much better that the wlan (and other services too) simply stops working when something security critical like this happens, at least it takes the admins caution immediately.

I have been using this device couple months and this was my first real problem, if we exclude metarouters out of scope.

Btw, is it possible that I have done some mistake with profiles earlier and they just somehow activated now when I made the upgrade and of course was forced to reboot the device? I guess that my devices uptime was something like 60d's this morning (I'm pretty sure that it was rebooted previous time when I made upgrade to ROS 5.22 at end of November), so there is certainly been some changes to wlan config also after that..

Having issues with 5.23 on a RB951G-2HnD. Upgraded from a new 5.22 with default config applied and rebooted. Could no longer access it. Used NetInstall to redo the upgrade, and that got it back up on its feet. Did a restore to Defaults and I was no longer able to access it.

I have another 3 RB951G-2HnD that I can test the upgrade on tomorrow to see if it is that one unit or all of them.

Also, deployed 5.23 via TheDude to around about 10 different RB751U-2HnD and they seem to be working well so far.

My story with RB2011 continues.. Today I noticed that there is also new firmware available (3.04).. I made fw upgrade too and decided to boot again after that but now my device doesn't get up anymore. LCD screen shows first "routerboot configuration" then "ether boot" then fastly "loading kernel from nand" and last "loading kernel" and nothing happens anymore.

I don't have suitable console cable available right now, have to find one from somewhere tomorrow.. I already tried Netinstall, but it not regognize RB althought RB says "ether boot" while booting. I have tried Netinstall never before, so its definitely possible that I'm just misunderstanding something.

PXE boot option was enabled from Netinstall and ip for pc and client-ip for Netinstall boot configuration was picked from same subnet (192.168.1.1 & 192.168.1.2). Reset jumper doesn't change anything, text on lcd while booting are just same, with or without screwdriver in resethole.

I tried to watch traffic with Wireshark, but I didn't spotted anything what would be helpful. Can anyone tell me what I should see if netinstall is working correctly?

Another question, if I managed to install ROS again someday do I need some extra attention with license? I now my software id but do I need something else after install?

Second one of the RB951G-2HnD seems to have upgraded fine, which makes me think it is the one unit that is faulty. Another 2 to test it on.

Now I'm running 5.23 & FW 3.04. Console cable made the trick. After I set boot device to ethernet from boot menu I was able to use Netinstall. Before that it wasn't really trying to do pxe-boot althought lcd screen said "ether boot" before kernel loading. Is it bug or what? I didn't see anything with Wireshark, but when I forced device to do ether boot I immediately saw BOOTP packets coming.

1) Have you watched the console output upon rebooting? You may have to install something else (e.g., 5.23rc1) first, so that the installer recognizes it as a different version from what is already there.

2) Check the dates on the files you are uploading; maybe you are uploading the older version by mistake?

New problem with 5.23.. Winbox (and Webfig too) lost all information about interfaces. The whole Interfaces/Interface -tab is empty. Everything is working fine, no issues with connections or anything and SSH (and console) shows (/interface print) everything right. It is just Winbox and Webfig which has problem and reboot fixes it for a while but it comes back sooner or later.

I can send screen shots or something if needed, but this is quite annoying.. Never hit this problem either with 5.22.

Please answer for very simple question:
Why are you fix unimportant bug of LCD display and not to fix critical fundamental problems of routing?
Probably you can try to develop LCD instead of routers? :evil:

Hello mistiq,
Why are you fix unimportant bug of LCD display and not to fix critical fundamental problems of routing?
What fundamental thing is not running in RouterOS?
Probably you can try to develop LCD instead of routers?
And what must we all pay then for a router, if MikroTik is doing so?
I mean from where we get then our routers?
From Cisco? Juniper? Lancom? Draytek? Netgear? Ubiquiti?
And what we all have to pay for then?

Could you please clarify what critical routing problems do you have? As far as I know, v5.22 was very stable in all regards. This is a minor release to add SXT Lite support, and some other small improvements.

Many many bug report about osfp problem you can see in http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewforum.php?f=14
for example:
1) "route,ospf,info Database Description packet has init bit set in middle of an exchange" from 5.9 to 5.23 as far i know
2) "Redistribution ospf routes from backbone to inter-area are hang up" bug in all (and latest) 5.xx version
look on that:
2 ADo  dst-address=10.0.0.0/19 gateway=172.24.64.5
        gateway-status=172.24.64.5 reachable via ipip_sunlink_vl03_vladlink (It active but incorrect route with higher ospf-metric)
        distance=110 scope=20 target-scope=10 ospf-metric=80
        ospf-type=external-type-1

3  Do  dst-address=10.0.0.0/19 gateway=172.24.64.105
        gateway-status=172.24.64.105 reachable via  ether2 distance=110
        scope=20 target-scope=10 ospf-metric=40 ospf-type=external-type-1   (It inactive but correct route)
In next network diagram:
Image

This issue can fix by couple (!!!) of backbone instance restart or reboot router.

3) "some times incorrect ospf type when redistrubution"
look on that:
2 ADo  dst-address=10.0.0.0/19 gateway=172.21.96.5
        gateway-status=172.21.96.5 reachable via  ipip_megafon_vl03_vladlink
        distance=110 scope=20 target-scope=10 ospf-metric=40
        ospf-type=external-type-2
router ospf 1
redistribute ospf 100 metric-type 1 subnets

I sent you couple trouble ticket but all answer are: "wait for new routing package". Two years i am wait for it...
As far as I know, v5.22
5.22 and 5.23 have same problem...

I have large network and very big problem with mikrotik routing. i.e. iBGP and ospf.

I made downgrade (fresh install with NetInstall & config restored from backup) back to ROS 5.22 and haven't seen those strange Winbox-problems at least yet. RouterBoard's FW is still 3.04.

Hello There is a problem in the Quick Set. When you change LAN IP Address, do not change the settings in the DNS Settings Static and DHCP Server Networks DNS Servers. Have to do it manually.
Just wanted to see added to the Quick Set setup PPTP Client and L2PT Client, as it is organized on the points of others.
Did you click on "Apply Configuration"? I have tried to change IP address, and DHCP network Address and Gateway changed, though /ip pool (DHCP server range) should be changed by your in Quickset.
I wrote that everything changes except the DNS Settings Static and DHCP Server Networks DNS Servers. They remain the same. Such as changing "IP Address" on 10.10.100.1/24, "DHCP Server Networks DNS Servers" remains the default 192.168.88.1

Did you get a change to make support output file, when WPA2 key changed?
I have tried to upgrade one of my boards from v5.23 to v6.x, key was upgrade without changes.
No, however I just upgraded an SXT and an Omnitik without a problem.

The most stable was ROS 5.22, i have to downgrade from 5.23 to 5.22 coz my ether keep over flapping 3-4 times a day. But firmware stay ver 3.02, if this flapping continues, then i must downgrade the firmware to ver 2.41, then we will know the "devil" is the frimware itself.

*Downgrade to ROS 5.22 with Firmware 3.02, only ether 1 and 2 overflaping (RB450G). Now downgrade my firmware to ver.2.41.

I always use 100mbps ether.
I'm done test it, my RB450G now with downgrade ROS 5.23 to 5.22 and downgrade firmware 3.02 to 2.41 running smooth no overflapping, so the "devil" was Firmware 3.02.

Upgraded to 5.23 from 5.22 and many routes are missing. I use VPLS tunnels and apply IP address /24 to each tunnel. After reboot aprox 1/3 of the routes are not in the routes table and I can not reach any IPs belonging to that subnet. If I disable and then enable the IP address, the routes are added to the table and I can reach the subnet.

Running PPPoE Servers for each VPLS Tunnel and all PPPoE sessions are running, just IP Routes missing/not working.

Did not notice this behaviour in 5.22, however I try to not reboot the RB1100AHX2 very often.

Is it just a v5.23 feature or is the NV panel under wireless interface configuration gone missing?

The NV2 Panel shows up if you select NV2 in the wireless protocol.

Had to reboot again today and after reboot, several dynamic routes missing? If I disable the IPs and re-enable them routes magically appear?

Hello, in this version we have rapidly reduced the rate on all joints ptp. We previously measured around 54Mbps on Speedtest down and now it goes max 16Mb! what goes around over 5 jumps and jumps are linked against at full speed, CCQ holds from 90 to 100%. udp test shows 90/90Mb.
All jumps are NV2

Version 5.22 went well.

Now we try to do a little test.
Two jumps I switched to the mode 802.11a Nstreme and suddenly TCP test showed 30Mb, while regular speed there is 54/54Mb and NV2 was 150/150Mb, which was therefore with greater clear that something is wrong with the protocol NV2.

Please fix this problem with NV2, it is a pity that I can not take full advantage of and I have to go back to the good old Nstreme.

Hello okoun,

did you are suing v.5.23 on both sides or ends, to guarantee that NV2 works proper?
I was not able to find the right thread here in the forum where I was reading it, so sorry for no link is shown to you.

Just let you know that after updating a RB2011L-IN and a RB2011UAS-2Hnd the activity led of every port is blinking.
Confirmed in RB2011L-IN ! :D
Can't turn ON/OFF ethernet LED's, showing only interface activity :(
Let's hope it's a feature in the next ROS :roll:

I mean not the routeros version
Here You go (Use WinBox) :
1. http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... e-5.22.npk
2. Copy and paste it on "Files"
3. Go to /system/package then click "Downgrade" then it will reboot, or you must reboot after that (/system/reboot)
4. Check Your Version it's must be 5.22.
5. Then go to /system/routerboard, you will notice that "Current Firmware: 3.02" and "Upgrade Firmware: 2.41"
6. If Current firm are high version than Upgrade firm then you can click "Upgrade" and make sure it done.
7. Then reboot your router from /system/reboot
8. After reboot, check /system/routerboard you'll see all firmware version now 2.41.
9. Done.

Re: 5.23 released!

Hello guys!

I need a little help. I've just received my brand new RB951G-2HnD device. After connecting it to my PC i used WinBox to configure the device. On the QuickSet panel i checked for a new version of RouterOS and it offered to upgrade from 5.22 to the new version 5.23. I started the upgrade process. It downloaded the packages correctly, and said "rebooting". The router is no longer accessible from that point.

Symptoms: after powering on all LEDs are blinking one time, there is a single short beep, and the ACT LED blinks one more time. If i connect an ethernet cable to any of the ethernet port the LED assigned to that port starts to lit continuously, but the machine i connected says "No network connection". Unable to connect with WinBox or to WebFig. Tried the reset button, nothing changed.

Also tried the NetInstall procedure to reinstall but i could not make the device to boot from the NetInstall PXE server, at least nothing is showing up in the list of the NetInstall app (except the HDDs of my PC).

Have i just bricked my new 0day device? Please hint me how to bring it back to life, if possible. Thanks in advance.

I upgraded my omnitik.

It runs for two or three hours then it reboots. In the log I get the following messages;

"System rebooted because of kernel error"

Web proxy is disabled but when requests start to the web proxy CPU go to 100% or 98%.

there's ospf problem with 5.23 installed. default route is flapping, on gateway is set to distribute 'always as type 2' but it's just gone for some reason in random periods of time (today 6 times). the cure is to disable and enable default route on gateway, then i'ts redistributed until it's gone again.

I've got strange behavior of routes in this version.
It shows route as reachable even if gateway is completely offline.
Only thing that it checks if the interface is up.
P.S. I've got two interfaces to reach the gateway of my main ISP (188.231.196.1%ether1 and 188.231.196.1%ether2).
And if gateway of main ISP is unreachable - it should switch to back-up link(secondary isp).
My problem is that routes to main are marked as reachable(without real checking) until I disable interfaces.

have you set 'check-gateway=ping'? described behaviour is as it should be by design if check-gateway=none

Yes, check-gateway=ping .
This bug happens only when interface to reach gateway is defined manually.
