LTE ME909u-521 Mini-PCIe

Wed Dec 11, 2013 12:13 pm

Hello,

Im from Spanish company who bought hundreds of mikrotik devices for Wifi hotspot.
We have bought a Huawei ME909u-521 Mini-PCIe to do test, and it doesnt works in Mikrotik 411U 5G with firm 6.7.
Mikrotik doesnt detect the interface lte.
I get out the status file.

I have a Sierra Lte minipci and mikrotik detects the lte interface. And it works perfect.

Could you help us to said how configure the interface o if we hace to wait to new realese?

Thanks.

Check under system resource usb if you have a modem recognized there.
And then check if you have a USB with few channels recognized under /ports section.

looks like the card is not recognized at all in the board. Does it have any light indicator on the modem when the board is powered up?
Have you tried to use this card in a different 411U board or 912 board?

The modem doesnt have any light.
It has not used in other board.
This board, im using, is the board where I inserted and accepted the LTE Sierra miniPCICard.

Im going to insert into another board and post again.

looks like the modem fails to recognize in the RouterOS. It could be a hardware problem maybe.
If you have a RB912 board you could try to check if it is recognized there.
I would suggest to use different band modem.
You can continue to use that Sierra modem which should be working ok.

in this support output file I see that the usb port is recognized and a USB port is recognized with 5 channels.
You can now try to use the ppp-out interface to connect to the internet.

Hi,

The Modem Huawei is now working with PPP Client. The problem is the maximum speed is 14Mbps downlink. I dont know if PPP Client has limite speed beacuse with LTE interface (Sierra miniPCI), over the same net (movistar) and same place the speed is about 50Mbps.

Could you help me to configure the interface to get the optimum speed?

Thanks.

currently we can't add support for LTE mode for those USB Huawei modems.
The only LTE modems we could try to add support is those that uses the web interface for configuration and connection and do not require any configuration using serial port. But we can't guaranty that it could work for all of those modems.

Hi Guys,

I am having also the same issue with the Huawei modem ME909u-521. My problem is that if I plugged the modem in, Mikrotik can recognize it, and can see under interface lte all information. But modem doesn't have any usb ports! So I can not use any PPP client to dial.
I am currently running the latest ROS which is 6.10. With router board 411.

I had also bought a Sierra Wireless MC 7710 card! Which is also recognize it! It is not working at all. I can connect to the card through serial-port, but there is only shown the modem FW which is SWI (I think), and I can not get to it to work. I tried to upgrade FW of MC 7710 with no luck! I tried 4 notebooks which were also supported by that card, and nothing, I had bought a miniPCIe to PCI card and still can not to upgrade the firmware.

Any help would be very appreciate! As I am stuck with these problems for more then 3 months and it is really driving me crazy.

Many thanks Cyril

ROS v6.11 now supports ME909u-521.

What is now your maximum downlink speed?

gemmiu, please add a dhcp-client on the lte1 interface and specify the APN and username/password if required.

Then it should dial up to the network.

The USB port is used only for GPS connections.

Hi,
The LTE connection works fine.
The info is also reachable:
[admin@xxxx] > /interface lte info lte1
status: call in progress
pin-status: no password required
functionality: full
manufacturer: Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
model: ME909u-521
revision: 11.234.77.00.00
current-operator: Telenor HU Telenor HU (cellid unknown)
access-technology: Evolved 3G (LTE)
signal-strengh: -55 dBm
frame-error-rate: n/a
imei: 860461024107636
imsi: 216012555034895
-- [Q quit|D dump|C-z pause]

But in the "/port" there is nothing.
So without reachable cdc serial channel we can't use the GPS.

Any idea?

Thanks

you need to update the modems firmware that supports the GPS serial port. Here are the info that I know, maybe there is even newer firmware:
ME909 V1R1 11.234.77.00.00 - NO GPS
ME909 V1R1 11.235.07.00.00 - GPS/Glonass

Thank you, Uldis,

The modem firmware upgrade really solved the missing port problem.
Unfortunately we could not find yet working modem init AT commands to import gps data into Mikrotik.

try to connect the USB port of the modem using serial terminal that then here are the some commands you could try:
Enable GPS positioning: AT^WPDGP
Stop GPs positioning: AT^WPEND

Also contact Huawei to get some documentation how to check if you have GPS RADIO enabled on the current modem.

After entering that start command the usb port should report the NMEA output which you could use in the system gps menu in RouterOS.

I got it working on RB411, but it doesn't work with the RB912. The huawei modem isn't recognised at all.
Isn't it supported by the 912 board?

HI.
I have similar problems with this modem and I think there is a software bug in RouterOS or firmware of a modem

First:
I have a RB411UAHR (Mikrotik v6.23) with modem Huawei ME909u-521 in miniPCIexpress slot.

1) Once I powered up a masine, the routerboard don't discovered any modem in usb resources.
2) I make a few resets (by winbox, terminal, or plugin power jack out) and then at one time I see the LTE interface in interfaces card. I unlock SIM card, set DHCP client on LTE interface and modem works fine.
3) I make reset again and then I see only ppp-out interface (disabled), no LTE interface is present, but in resources in USB I see huawei modem.
4) I make a few resets again and then I cannot see any USB modem in resources (and LTE interface of course)
5) If I make a many resets, the modem will be (if it feels lucky :-) )discovered, but as interface LTE2 (or 3, 4 etc...) and needs new configuration.

6)I have two RB411UAHRs and two modems and the behavior is the same in different hardware configurations.

Here is three suppout.rifs - for Your aditional information. With LTE interface discovered. With LTE interface Not discovered, but in USB resource is modem present and with no modem presented in usb discovered.

Can you tell me a feedback of this information?
Many thx

Hi Raymond

For LTE we are using http://www.mouser.com/pdfdocs/Molex6Ban ... enna-2.pdf and it is working great

Take in account that GPS function is not working at all in any RB912. We can communicate with the GPS module of the RB but it never position with GPS. We have a ticket with mikrotik support for more than 2 months and we don't have any answer in the last weeks.

Our guess is that mikrotik has some type of issue with pcie communication performance with Huawei ME909u-521

We have also RB953 and with this RB in optimal coverage situations GPS of the Huawei ME909u-521 gets position.

Best Regards

I'm using standard omni 5dBi (or 4dBi from RF Elements for outdoor - no hinge so no way for water to come in) wifi antennas (2.4GHz) and it is working reasonably well (for a network running on 1800MHz). With average LTE cell coverage I'm getting about -70dBm signals (outdoors) on that.
With a different provider and UMTS network running around 1.9 - 2.1GHz I can get up to -52dBm with the same.

Re: LTE ME909u-521 Mini-PCIe

Thu Dec 31, 2015 1:06 pm

Hi Stam

It doesn't work

This problem can't be solved, we spent hundreds of hours working with mktk support, trying different routerboards and 90 or 95% of the times the GPS doesn't position

We are trying since March different antennas and all possible routeros version, I am quite sure RouterOS has some problem with low level Huawei mini-PCIe interface

You must look for other solution out of MKTK if you need a Mini-PCIe with LTE and GPS.

Best Regards

Hi We are sorry but ME909u-521 is not compatible with RB411U /UAHR in miniPCIe slot you need to use this
adapter it will work with this u http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-PCI-e-Wi ... 418492d96e
for RB411 to work

ME909u works grate in RB912 boards.

MC7710 will work grate in RB411
Dear friend,

I have RB912UAG and Huawei ME909s-120. When the card is recognized, everything works very good but if I turn off the router and turn on again then the card is not recognized until I go to System/RouterBoard/reset USB power for 5 seconds. After this, LTE interface appears again but this is a big problem. Router will be placed in a place with no skilled people to do this every time if the router is OFF/ON. If I just reboot then all is ok... If power loss then the described problem appears. Can You help?

Best Regards!

Hello I have a problem with ME909u-521 card installed on RB912UAG board. LTE interface drops more or less every 2 minutes with this card.

LTE network coverage is sufficient enough. Same LTE network and same SIM card works just fine in the same place using a Sierra MC7710 on a RB411U board.

ME909u521 firmware is 11.234.77.00.00 and ROS used for tests are v6.32.4 and v6.35.2 with configuration applied from scratch for both cases.

Any ideas?

Does anyone have firmware 12.631.07.01.00 for this card? It seems to work fine in some other posts.

Update.

After finally upgrading firmware to 12.636.11.01.00 version, lte interface drops eliminated and now card has the expected and correct behavior with great stability.

hey there

i have got a RB411-5nH here with a Huawei ME909s-120 LTE/3G/GPS interface module
i can't get the routerboard to recognize the miniPCI-e module ... i don't see  a PCI device, no LTE interface and no USB port(s)
the module is brand new and was delivered today

unfortunately i have no RB952 here....but i have not got any luck with a RB800 either.
the miniPCI-e interface on the RB411 is working - it recognizes a novatel EU850D

EDIT: cannot attach supout.rif?!?!? ("HTTP Error")

is your RouterOS up to date? the ME909s-120 requires 6.28. Also, do you have the LTE package installed?

I would also recommend buying a Mini-PCIe to USB adaptor to test the card on a Windows computer.
I have this one, and it works well.  WWAN USB Adaptor

hi
yes 6.35.4 and i also tested with 6.36rc33 ... no luck :(
BUT .... i've got a reply from MT tech. support that i would have to change a capacitor on the RB411 board (C842 to a 1.0F 10V 0603) and then the module should work. i guess this is because the RB411 i have here is, like, "100 years old".
thanks for the hint with the usb<>miniPCIe adaptor. great for firmware updates as well i guess!

Hi

I'm fighting with my rb411u and Huawei ME909s-120. Have you tried replacing that capacitor and if so, did it work??

Also, I did look for this type of condenser. Are you sure it's 1.0F not 1µF?? I found this one: http://uk.farnell.com/murata/grm188r71a ... dp/1845766

Also2: If someone needs it I managed to find some links to Huawei firmware - not on Huawei website of course. See there: https://yadi.sk/d/ttpmrC2IsJKy3
I will try my modem with different FW on RB411U. If it still refuses to cooperate I guess it's a bin for 411 and upgrade to RB912UAG-5HPnD...

no unfortunately i'm no longer in that company where i had RB411s to play around with.
but yeah i guess it should be 1µF but i found the mail where some MikroTik support worker states "1.0F" in the mail body but 1µf on the picture (attachment)

i have it up and running well on a RB912UAG-5HPnD ... worth the upgrade!!!

Hello,

is there any progress regarding the RB-912/Huawei me909u-531 combination with GPS? We are currently developing a vehicle network solution and our prototype uses this router/modem combination. It would fit perfectly our needs since with the BaseBox2 a nice roof-mountable housing is available.
LTE connection works perfectly, we can see up to 16 satellites with a multi (3G/4G/WiFi/GPS) passive antenna but we cannot get a lock.

This looks more related to Huawei me909u-531 specifically than ROS, are you sure this isn't a hardware limitation? maybe a setting on the Modem, or specific firmware issue?

FYI: there are new devices to be released that may be of your interest: LtAP mini / LtAP announced at 2017 Milan MUM:
