Feature Request: IPV6 DHCP-Client allow 2 per interface

Sat Oct 25, 2014 8:31 pm

I have Mikrotik Clients (SXT) which connect with pppoe.
The client then assigns IPv4 and IPV6 addresses to the users home routers.
The home routers I have encountered require both PD and DHCPv6 addresses to work with IPV6.
I would like to have 2 dhcp clients on my pppoe-out interface so that the SXT can get 2 ranges, one for PD and the other for DHCPv6-Server.
It will not allow me to have 2 DHCP clients on 1 interface.

If it allowed this the configuration would be simple, as my pppoe-server routers could assign 2 ranges to the SXT one for PD and one for DHCPv6-server.

I can put the DHCP-Client on the Wireless interface and have a second DHCPv6 server on the pppoe-servers bridge.
The problem with this is the Dynamic Static route with a distance of 1.
Why not let OSPFv3 do the routing? or have an option in the DHCP server to not create Dynamic Static route for assignments.

since you have prefix delegation at play you can give out larger prefix. So that receiving router has 2 /64 or more prefixes delegated to it only using larger prefix given out. That it can in turn be redistributed further either by another dhcp-pd or via RA announced on 2 (or more) different interfaces.

It is not like in IPv4 where you had to stand on your head to get 2 ip addresses.

edit: to make my idea clearer.

Problem is that the 2 ranges will have to be separate subnets.
1 for RA and one for DHCPv6 both on the same interface.

if you give router this prefix: 2001:db8:bad:beee::/63
you basically get 2 /64 ranges

2001:db8:bad:beee::/64
2001:db8:bad:beef::/64

OK; so now the SXT gets a /63 assigned to testpool.
Now ether1 needs a /64 for PD, and another /64 is needed by the DHCPv6 server.
How do you propose I split the pool?

EDIT:
It would probably be preferred that the Dynamic-Static be heavily weighted as opposed to 1=no weight?
Dynamic-Static sounds paradoxical does it not ?!?

correct. when pool is installed you can add address to one of the interfaces where you want to advertise pool using from-pool. as the result in /ipv6 pool used one prefix will appear as used.

And add this pool to be used in DHCP-PD

when used you can check in '/ipv6 pool used' that one prefix is used by address and another one by DHCP.

example on how this looks
[admin@MikroTik] /ipv6 pool> used pr
POOL                         PREFIX                                      OWNER                       INFO
example                         2001:db8:beef:beef::/64                        DHCP                        d4ca6dfad102
example                      2001:db8:beef:beee::/64                     Address                     sfp-sfpplus1

Thanks.
That was what I needed, as until then it was only as clear as mud.
Much appreciated.
