6.29 750UP running MPLS / VPLS crashes and keeps rebooting

Thu May 28, 2015 6:20 pm

We had a 750GL 6.28 with mpls / vpls runnng with no problems. One of the ethernet ports went bad so we replaced it with a 750UP 6.28 and it wouldn't pass 1500 byte packets so we upgraded to 6.29 and then the MTU problem was solved but the unit keeps rebooting. We disabled the VPLS and did it over eoip and it works. This is not a long term solution though. Ideas?

Hi,

although this is an old post, I would like to share my own experience. As you're not very precise when unit is rebooting, I guess it could be related to too much traffic, maxing out the CPU.

I observed the same behavior with ROS 5.26. RB750GL keeps rebooting when passing ~200MBit/s traffic over VPLS. Log shows that unit is rebooted by watchdog which is the expected behavior.

In my experimental network I turned off watchdog and problem was gone. The disadvantage of this work-around is that you will lose e.g. WinBox connection when device is maxed out. Also, turning off watchdog might not be a good idea in a production environment when device is not that easy to access otherwise.

Please check CPU load in Tool - Profile. I wonder what process eats CPU?
My case with RB750UP is here http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... 36#p485836

And yes, RB750UP rebooting often by watchdog since 9.29. Only 9.30rc19 solved (I hope) management process CPU overload issue, but other problem gets very hard -- Simple Queues & Firewall broken in Bridging configuration http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... 70#p486770
