This is very important thing don't know y this was not included in new UM. Automatic backup options in UM maintenance like setting up backup daily, weekly, monthly & backup time with ftp option.

Thanks

Re: User Manager v4.0 test package

We know its a test package, but its not good that we have to wait so long without any progress, feed back or timescale.
I think I must have upset someone at MT Support. I still have no answer to the 2 emails I sent to them. :-(
We're now up to 3 unanswered emails and another week rolls by of being ignored. I even sent my last email to someone else in MT to chase this up. Nothing. No reply. Not even from this other guy, who I know is there, as he sent me an email only just before I sent mine.

No courtesy email of "we're working on it", no email of "we got all your emails but we're really busy working hard to fix this bug, please leave us alone". Silence. Now getting angry. MT needs to think hard about what customer service means. This isn't even "good" customer service. This is not even "customer Service". This is getting down right rude.

Paypal payments problem on UM 4.9 test

Thu May 27, 2010 4:24 pm

Everything works fine when somebody buys credit over paypal, exept for that under "Paid Money" its written "0.00" although the user has successfully paid and is already using the hotspot.

Also when the user logs in to his User page, under "Money paid" there is also written "0.00".

I am also getting errors when adding credits to a user directly (without paypal):
I add the credit, but again it sometimes doesn't show up under "Paid money" - User page.

So its not possible to give a rate limit directly to a user?
In the new User Manager I can only make a rate limit to a credit which I will give to a user.
But i usually don't limit the users rates in advance, only in case i have an overload then i go and make a rate limit on the user that is downloading a lot (making the overload).
So it is not possible to have the option to limit the rate of a specific user?

I am using User Manager test 4.9.

So how do i make the rate limit to a specific user?
If i click on the user i want to make the limit to, i don't have the option for rate limit.
Also here is the "Money Paid" problem:

Use Profiles to configure Rate-Limit for the users.

Use Profiles to configure Rate-Limit for the users.
I have created rate limits under Profiles- Limitations.
But I am not able to apply this limit to a specific user that has already bought credits.

This rate limits apply only for the whole profile but cannot add the limit just for one user for example.

There should be separate profile for the specific customer then.

There should be separate profile for the specific customer then.
The problem is that all profiles are visible on the signup paypal payment page.

So if i would create a single profile for that user, this profile would show up also at the signup (payment) page. So some user could make a mistake and buy that profile.
How would i hide that specific profile from the signup page?

As user paid you for the specific plan (bandwidth limitation time), then he/she expects specific bandwidth/limitation time.
You can add static queue to set different limit for client.
You can manually assign profile for the client.

As i told you I am not limiting users in advance, I am trying to give them maximum speed etc. Because i have just few users so i dont have to limit them in advance.
I am asking in case my network gets stuck because of some user that is downloading for ex. torrents, how can i limit that specific user, so that my network is working fine again?
You can add static queue to set different limit for client.
You can manually assign profile for the client.
What is static queue and how do i add it?
What do you mean - manually assign profile for client?

See the previous post, what you can do.

Additionally to it you will need to clear current user settings (queue, etc.), which are given before the login.

- you can do it manually, by logging to the router;
- you can do it by RADIUS incoming messages (CoA), when user queue can be changed by CoA (when you will assign new profile for the client with new limitation).

Hello,
I have been reading all the stuff on user manager, but i just upgraded a new router board, 433 to ros 4.10. But I did not see all the features you guys outlined in the user manager.

What happned and how do i get the new features included in user manager since 4.0 and above.

I need this feature that is why i bought the rb433, so that i will hve gthe new features of user manager.

Most of the things i need are assigning users time limit, say from 6:00am to 12pm, or 6pm till 7am.

Thanks

Hello,

I have a big problem.

I have created 3 profiles that are for the paypal payments, and appear on sing up page.

I have many time clients that have different needs, so I make a deal with the client individually and create a separate profile for that client that meets his needs.
But as soon i create the profile for that 1 client, this profile is added as well at the sign-up page, so some clients have bought that profile from signup page, but it was not supposed to be there.

So what should i do?

How do i edit the singup page (paypal), so that it will show specific profiles, but not all of them?

Please somebody answer me its really urgent!

Is it possible?

Right now i have a confusion here, because clients are buying accounts that were not supposed to be on the online page,
those accounts where discounted accounts just for individual clients that I assist at my internet cafe.

Re: User Manager v4.0 test package

Fri Aug 06, 2010 1:54 am

I'm glad to announce that Mikrotik Team is doing a great job it is almost 1 year & 3 months when the 1st beta was released but still it is unstable. I think this project will never end coz MT guys don't like customers to develop their business. in case of support MT is the best support team in the world coz their software always keep saying "if you see any error please email to support@mikrotik.com with supout.rif" & when you email them any issue a reply comes "please provide screen-shots" or "please provide more info" & if you report them a bug "its beta stop complaining" & that also after a week till then your problem got solved by urself only & they really don't care if your network is down or your routers r blown away. other way of getting help is forum but as you can see here many are asking for help but they never found any answer. this guy like to make their customer survive with depression & make them beg for help. I'm using MT from 2 years & i have survived alot yesterday also my database got corrupted no support from any where some how i started it after spending whole night reinstalling it.

I have one suggestion for MT team "don't ask for karma you'll get it if you deserve it"

& disclaimers please don't mind I'm a sad user of MT & I've full Copyrights to share my experience here

Thanks

I have to say WOW! This package was almost impossible to find and if it hadn't have been for some screen shots posted on the wiki I would never have found it. But I am so glad I did :-)

Really impressive. Great interface, user friendly and very flexible in it's approach compared with the previous version. The CoA function makes me all fuzzy inside (like my girlfriend), quite the opposite to what I felt when I found out that deleted sessions didn't disconnect the actual PPPoE or Hotspot user in the previous version. So again well done.

Excuse me if this is already possible (somehow), but features I'd like to see added are:

- Monthly recurring accounts that reset at the end of the cycle. This fits the subscription based model whereby client payments are automatically processed.
- The ability to dynamically change the sessions rate limit once a particular traffic threshold has been reached. On a daily or monthly basis would be nice.
- Custom Payment Gateway support. I think most of the return parameters of gateways are quite consistent, but it could be a simple process of mapping incoming variables for payment approval / declined replies to the UM ones...

In the meantime, is there a script example that works with the test version that will enable me to reset current usage at 12:00am at the end of every month without loosing the history?

Any comments or advise would be appreciated.

To all

The Beta works pretty well for 4.11. I am running it on a 450G board. Please note the following thing. Nothing is really clearly documented as yet, some functions, eg, assigning Profiles, 'hiding' profiles, just have to be figured out! It works great, use permission settings etc.

I might soon start to use it in a production environment, though, it is beta, what do you expect? run backups every 15 minutes just in case something crashes.

I had some issues in the past with stable OS versions, but they are pretty rare and depending on what particular features you have configured - example mesh, VAP and WDS over single antenna, BGP, DNS (I am still flushing all cached DNS entries every 2 hours :-(

And yes, it took me plain 6 hours work to figure the new UM 4.11 beta - some features, you have to click and refresh etc, so they actually show up, log out, close browser, login again helps too, how to set limits, how to assign profiles to customers etc.

Just note, which other products with such advanced features are possible on the market in this price range ? None! And you expect support? Go to Cisco; they charge thousands of $$ for their support calls. Maybe, Mikrotik, you should look into this option and also offer paid support, eg. $1k US per case ...

Conclusion - if you are not happy with the product, go and get an off the shelf product. Mikrotik OS might be just too advanced for you ;-)

Is the UM v4.0 in 5rc1 newer than the packages at the beginning of this thread?

I'm seeing usage stats issues on the users page. On refresh of the this list the figures sometimes go down. The reports appear to be accurate, however this is issue is clearly a bug.

Thanks,

Re: User Manager v4.0 test package

Thu Oct 14, 2010 5:22 pm

We had a change of staff, so User Manager development has slowed down. We are currently mostly working on fixing existing problems.
Existing problems in User Manager or just RouterOS for the v5 release? Perhaps some of my feature requests are already supported somehow.

1. Customization of the information that is displayed in the Users status page. ie. show or hide info, specify fields to display.
2. CLI access to the transfer limit or upload/download limits specified in the customers currently active profile.
3. CLI access to change a users profile to another for upgrades etc.
4. Automatic resetting of users sessions once their profiles have reached their limits and automatically jump to the next profile specified. This works partially, however the user's rate limit doesn't change to a different profile unless the session is reset.

Thoughts?

Re: User Manager v4.0 test package

Hallo,

I tested some things with User Manager and found some possible bugs. (tested with v4.11, x86 on Virtual Machine, LicenseLevel 0)

I want to use UM on a small RB so I tested what happen if disk space is full. When disk was full some error was found in log and users can't authenticate. When I deleted some files to have more space nothing changed. No user can authenticate.
I uninstalled test-UM-package an installed it and nothing changed. Same Failure. I had to reinstall the whole x86 system with restore off settings ect. Then it worked!
So is it possible to use such a small RouterBoard as Radius/UserManager? Can I limit the DB/Log-size? (for expample only store the last 1000 logs and delete older logs like in normal log of mikrotik, or max Log/DB-Size of 100 MB)
Or can I filter what to log? (traffic accounting would be enough in my case, session times are not so interesting)

In webinterface when you click at active users or active sessions (maybe also the other menu-points) you often see not the actual number. The content is not reloaded when you click the buttons only when you click on the table on the right site on username, status (to sort the table) then it is refreshed an you see the actual number off sessions or users.

In webinterface when a profile is assigned to a user and then I change the name of the profile in the userlist it is not changing and you only see the old name of the assigned profile.
It seems also not to be possible to change the profile of an user. When you edit an user you can choose other profiles but when you press save nothing will happen.

When all these things which I can edit in webinterface are possible to be edited in command line this would be great to use for scripts etc.!!!

But great work with this UserManager seems to get really powerful!! I can't wait till it is stable so that I can use it.

What License is needed to run only UM an an Routerboard? (when DB/Log-Size can be limited)

Best regards.

Re: User Manager v4.0 test package

Just upgraded x86 hardware and trying out the UM included with 5.0rc4.

Is the DB compatible between v4.x and 5.0rc? We're trying 5.0rc4 out in a production environment, but would like to have the option of falling back to 4.13 at any time. I'm keeping our previous server hot with v4.13 and I'd like to keep the DBs synchronized the best I can.

When I installed the new server, I installed v4.13 and loaded the .umb from the old server before upgrading to v5.0rc4. However, the DB was apparently lost in the upgrade. I loaded the .umb straight into v5 and it appeared we were up and running. But I'm wondering if we missed a DB conversion along the way that would ease the transition. Is that the case?

Would it make more sense to move UM to a subscription paid model? Its a decent bit of software users are asking for to be fixed and it's a hard business case to sink dev time into something you give away for free.

I'm sure users that use it would pay for it if it meant some more time could be spent on it

Reporting ....

x86 v5RC_12 internal release of 16th March + user manager of 16th -> http://router/user points to same as http://router/userman

Isn't the /user/ one supposed to be for the users? So they would be able to see their uptime and usage?

It is a real-life production system. We have Customers in there and Users associated with them. It serves 4-5 hotels, each AP in a separate VLAN with Layer 2 filters 8)

What exactly do we have to add to the configuration to make it work ? :)

Barry

Have you tried adding the displayed error to the bottom of errors.txt to enable it to be "translated"?
# no profile found
# Erroneous error, it really means that the client's credit has expired

no-profile-found = Your credit has expired. Please add more credit to your account before attempting again.
Or something like that?!

Might be wise to create a support ticket direct to Mikrotik if you want this fixing permanently?

Thanks now UM works fine i will report bugs if i found ny :D, I have a lil request

We have 20-25 customer each customer has around 100-150 users. we share 50% amount taken from users according to thier profiles. billing & collection of money everything is done by our customer and at the end of the month we generate a report from UM & ask them for 50% of total collected payments. sometimes they give less or sometimes they delay so we have to compromise everytime coz there is always a risk of losing that customer with the total amount collected by him.

I have seen others admins using log2space & 24online have a prepaid option for customer to deal with this issue. so i request Mt team to add a text box in customer option to add any amount & customer should be able to upgrade users profiles till that amount only.

Please reply wat you think about this?

Thanks

Is there any importing of settings and stuff that I have to do before I run the new version?

I am currently running on an x86 box with ROS 4.17 and "old" user manager.

So now I copy the packages over, reboot the machine. Then what?

Which version do you use? Is it stable?

In v.5.0 I miss that I can't do all things in terminal, like profiles. And you often have to logout in webinterface because tables are not updated when you change something.

I use Firefox 4. Win7.

For example. When I got to users and change the active profile of one user. Then in overview table of the users you see the name of the old profile and not of the new actual profile.

When I now want to see the correct table I have to logout an login and then I see the correct actual profile.
edit: (like basil said it is right that you can also sort the tables an it is updated. ok thats better than logout/login)

@Normis
When I add users via terminal. Is it possible to assign a profile? When not, will it be possible in the next releases?

Um, not sure if this topic is closed - but I am having small issues with the usermanager bundled with v5.

Not anything hectic, functionally the manager seems fine, for what I do with it. Just the updates to the screen when working on the web site are buggy, can you add a "refresh button" please, so after you have changed the profile of a user on the user page, the page updates. Currently I have to re-sort the list to get the new profile displayed.

Also, when adding / changing profiles in the profile section , the refreshing also isnt great, if I scroll between the profiles, sometimes the name I assigned , gets assigned to all the profiles, and even worse, sometimes the actual profile name, if I add a new profile, then choose an old profile in the drop down list, gets given the same name as the new profile, so the names all get messed up - very weird behavior.

And, in the limits section, there is no "save" button, only an "add" button - which is for saving - thats confusing - cant it be called "save" rather because if you make a change, why do you then click on "add" to save the change?. Surely "add" should be for creating new entries, not changing existing ones..

Otherwise, the upgrade from v4 to v5 worked easily enough, except I had 100 users, so I had to manually assign the profile to each user since you cant do it via cli and there is no way in the gui to select many users, and set their profile at same time, you can choose a lot of users, and remove but not make a global profile change.

O ya, just remembered, when I select a bunch of users, then choose disable - I get some strange script error pop up window. If I click ok, then log out and back in , the users appear to be disabled - and I get the same error when enabling them as well.

Still happy with the application though. :)

Same at me.

Same at me. After relogin names are ok.

Yes that really sucks. One main reason I can't use it! :-(
I need CLI or at least the possibility to mass-change via web-gui.
O ya, just remembered, when I select a bunch of users, then choose disable - I get some strange script error pop up window.
I use Win7/ FF4. There is no script error at me.

If all things could be done via CLI that would really be great and I would buy a level6-license. But so I can't ..
The GUI-bugs are annoying but I could live with it...

How can I import users correctly from 4.16 user manager (normal not test) to 5.0? When I upgrade to 5.0 all my users import but they don't work I think because they don't have a profile, in 4.16 each user had it's own speed limits. Do I have to create the profiles and add them manually to each user?

As far as I can tell, yes. There is also no access via CLI or API so you can't script or program to bulk-fix it.
This is the main reason why all my HS/UM routers is still on 4.17.
There is also a bad bug under certain circumstances it will batch-create users with wrong profile or with 2 profiles.
For in-production UM where batch users is regularly added, rather stick to 4.17 for the time being.
In fact, I had so many ***sed-off customers, all my Hotspot/Usermanager routers are still on 4.17, the rest is on 5/5.1.

That's a shame I really wanted to upgrade to 5.0 for the dual cpu support. Would it be possible for mikrotik make a 5.0 with the old user manager package?

Mikrotik Please, This is a shame!!!
I am losing my customers with paypal payments, because of UM bugs !!!

I am using User manager the new version for paypal payments and sometimes it just doesnt work!!!.
I had to refund already a few clients(users) because of that!!!

I am having 3 bugs with payments.

Sometimes the process works well,
but sometimes following bugs happen:
1. the user pays and the payment is sucessfull
2. But the profile (that the user payed for) is not added to that user, so when i check under that user there is no profile added to that user, but he did pay, and it was successful.
So when he tries to log in it doesn't work,

Another problem that sometimes occurs;
1. user pays and the payment is succesfull
2. the paid profile is added to that user
3. when the user tries to sign in, he cannot- there is a message saying "user xxx not found"
And so the user is there with the profile, but is not working, the only think i could do for that user to get it work, was to change the owner of this user to "Administrator", (previously the owner of that user was "signupCustomer").

Also there is following problem often i just get this error message in the logs:

19:19:36 manager, error, info, debug failed to add payment: PRIMARY KEY must be unique
And the payment (profile) is not added...

Please this is not ok, i cannot have such business with my customers, i think that this customers will not come back.
Because they have paid, but it wasn't working so a day later when i realized, i had to send them a refund.

Which version do you use? Latest is the one that comes with RouterOS v5.4. Could you try that one please?

And please next time when you deploy something - test first in a development/testing environment.

If you don't understand this - pay a "contractor" to test and deploy it for you.

I tested it for two months before going live and didn't have a problem. Once it went live UM fell apart and I had all the problems the guy is having above.

Don't use it now, do you use UM?

Re: User Manager v4.0 test package

I have now made following changes:

-Upgraded from 4.17, to 5.4
- Until now i was using 1 subscriber and 3 sub-customers under it, the sub-customers had different profiles, obviously this didn't work well, so i had to create just 1 subscriber per router (without the sub-costomers), because i guess the UM got confused with different profiles of sub-customer, so sometimes a profile just wouldn't work ,when added to a user

I am still getting the error message when trying to add a profile to a user:

00:02:10 manager, error, info, debug failed to add purchase: PRIMARY KEY must be unique
00:02:17 manager, error, info, debug failed to add userprofile: PRIMARY KEY must beunique
00:02:20 manager, error, info, debug failed to add userprofile: PRIMARY KEY must beunique
00:02:22 manager, error, info, debug failed to add payment: PRIMARY KEY must be unique

(So i have to press 5-6 times until the profile gets accepted for that user)

I tested the signup and paypal process and it is working fine now.
Also previously when i tested it it did work fine, but i never know when it will happen again.

Because as i said, from time to time it just happens that for some user the account doesn't get activated, although he paid

The annoying thing is that it seemed totally random, we could have sold five plan/profiles and then one will get the primary key error. The first weekend when everyone starting really using our service and we sold around 100+ plans, I was stuck to my laptop checking accounts asap when a PayPal email arrived. Most of the problems were the profile not getting added to the account. I would do the same clicking the + button, getting the primary key error and hoping the profile would get added. I did get a number of accounts not found, also had to manually re-enter the accounts into the database twice on the advice of MK. Didn’t fix anything.

After that weekend we had to purchase a radius solution.. It cost us a bit, but we haven’t had one payment not work since then. We lost a few customers, but didn’t get one error while testing and we did quite a bit of testing and payments.

If it worked it could be a simple, cheap radius and payment solution..

I think sending supout files along with database backups to support AT mikrotik dot com is in order here. I hope you guys have tested and stable hardware and it's not a hw issue.

Anyone who wants to try v5.4 - START a FRESH db and good luck to you. Report your findings.

Cheers.

Can I use 4.6 or newer userman with 4.5 mikrotik? I found that 4.5 version is most stable with 802.11N, and I won't change it...
it's possible but with 802.11N it works better :D

Please any documentation for user-manager test package or newer versions of user-manager, i don't know why the documentations stopped in version 3 or 4, and for test package nothing like that.

Please help as somoen wants to go to jail if he fails to implement it. Then how can someone create a time based users in user-manager.

I want a user to browse the net, from 12:00pm till 9:00pm, daily or from 7am - 7pm from Monday till Friday.

Thanks
