Userman Reset Voucher time Upon reboot!

Fri Jun 11, 2010 9:07 pm

Hi,
I have been running and providing support for mikrotik Router OS for long and have not actually noticed this until recently that my attention was drawn to it.

If the router hosting the hotspot and the user manager goes off suddenly, the time of all the customers that are logged on will be reset to what it is as at the last log-in.

E.G. Say, I bought 10hours vouchers, and have used 7hours and the router restart without me login out, my voucher will be reset back to 10hours. I did not believe this initially but have to run a test on it for over a week and find out it was true.

One of the Router is running ROS Version 4.6 and another 3.30 and both behaving the same way.

I reset the router configuration and just do the basic setup to make it work and it was still the same.

On this Routers, I am running the stable version.

Any Idea Pls?

I guess you User Manager is being rebooted? (not by /system reboot)
/system reboot[shutdown] should close all sessions correctly. If there is no proper reboot, it could be possible that user will get 10 hours access one more time.

At times the backup up power fails and the system can reboot without proper shut down, What I am not sure of is, it is normal or what can be done to stop that.

Do anyone has these experience with his or her hotspot billing system?

When system is rebooted without proper shutdown, there is no any way how RADIUS/User Manager can notify HotSpot that it is going down.

Thanks!

This means the periodic accounting report sent to user manager is useful only at the end of the session.

This has been my greatest challenge also. I get several power outages so my daily subscribers would enjoy longer sessions. Did you find a solution?

Yes, use UPS, good power supply and stable power source for User Manager router.
