Active USers Vs Active Session

Tue Aug 31, 2010 11:01 am

Guys,

Can someone explain what it means by active users and active session?

I came across it when i found out that level 4 license can only allow 20 connections at a time while active users are just the numbers of user ID's to be created-generated to the license level at a time.

Is what i had above correct or not?

Urgent please

Active users means usernames. Maybe your system allows multiple people to use the same username? In that case, you could have 10 sessions but each would use the same username.

But the limitation is not about that.

You can have as many users as you want in your system, the limit is about sessions only. Once you have 200 sessions connected, the 201st person will not be able to log in.

It's normal. http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:License_levels last line - User Manager active Sessions: 20 for Level4 license.

Looking these wikis [1] and [2] and this post I have the same question yet!
[1] https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/User_Man ... tive_users
[2] https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/User_Man ... e_sessions

What needs a session or what counts as active user?

I understand if someone connects to winbox or the website of the Mikrotik configuration that takes one user and one session. If you connect two times with the same user, it should count as one user and two sessions. That's ok.

One VPN connection counts as active user+session?
A hotspot connection counts as active user+session?

Regards,

Your quote only applies to users that authenticate against user manager database. If you allow two parallel logins with the same user, it would mean one user but two sessions.

I see.

But only related to hotspot. VPN connections are not counted in our RB/450

Please tell me if external Radius server logins count as user manager database. And external logins within Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter APIs?
