hotspot for office

Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:19 pm

Hi,

Current setup:

Interface 1 - WAN Internet

Interface 2 - Office - some workstations have internet manually enabled in the firewall - stations can contact each other - Problem is that these stations are abused when management is not in the office.

Interface 3 - Public AP - hotspot running - stations can not contact each other

I would like to enable the hotspot on the office interface, but still allow the stations to contact each other. Login required for internet.

Is this possible? Can an office network function properly when internet is governed by mikrotik hotspot?

Please advise.

Regards,

Murray

Communication between clients will be blocked, until user is logged in to the HotSpot.

Is there something that can be done with the walled-garden to allow communication between localnet computers without being logged in? I don't have the facilities to test right now.

Yes, 'walled-garden ip' could be used to allow communications between local clients.

Hi

I should have mentioned that this is a wired network. Does it make any difference?

Clients (Office) --- UTP Cable ---- Switch --- UTP Cable --- RB750 --- UTP Cable --- Wireless CPE --- Internet

Surely, the clients communicate through the switch, and only access the internet through the RB750?

Cheers,

Murray

Yes. On the wire local network traffic will not go through the router, and will not be affected by the Hotspot.
