Newbie with Point-to-Point connection...

Mon Dec 05, 2011 2:54 am

Hi Everyone,

I'm a CCNA who was tasked with configuring (2) RB133C's to extend a T1 connection to a remote network.

This was working until they recently switch T1 providers at which point they brought me in. I've been involved with wireless APs but never with antennas and trying to cover the extended ranges.

I had to reset the two RBs because I didn't have any passwords to login. After logging in with a serial cable, I was able to configure the Ethernet IP address and login via browser. I was then able to load up Winbox.

However, after many hours, I'm feeling a bit down as I'm missing something.

I've connected two laptops to the (2) different 133C's, configured IPs on both the Ethernet and WLAN1, and I'm able to ping everything. However, I have NOT been able to connect/ping across/between the two APs. I just can't seem to get them to see each other. I tried going into AP-Bridge mode, but it states that I can't due to licensing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I catch on pretty quickly and feel as if I'm only missing one or two pieces to this puzzle.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration

Your friend in Virginia,
Paul Laudenslager

Which version version of routeros are you using? Try using bridge mode instead of AP-Bridge. I sounds like you have a level 3 license.

The wiki has the answer you are looking for:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Wireless_Setups
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Transpare ... o_Networks

Or any of those variations will probably do what you want.
