MPLS,OSPF and network convergence time

Sun Jul 12, 2009 12:02 pm

Hi all,

I have some problems with my network. Currently I have a switched network with MST with OSPF on top. In cause of problems with the licensed microwave links (link loss) at thunderstorms the time to switch to the MT backup-link is to high. 1st I thought to remove the spanning tree and go bach to pure OSPF. Then I saw that the minimum HELLO interval is 1 second. Sub second intervals (fast hello like cisco), who will make OSPF faster, are not available. My 2nd thought was to move to MPLS. MPLS will solve some problems with customer VPNs. While thinking I saw some questions:

For MPLS I need a proper IP connection (like OSPF or static). If I use OSPF I will have no advantage because OSPF will not have the convergence time I need.

When will fast reroute and protection be implemented in MT MPLS?

How have you solved the problem?

I am updating our distribution and would like fast hello's as well, at least for ptp links.
