BGP Stable for production?

Thu Dec 01, 2011 6:19 pm

We are looking at making our ISP dual-homed. I am currently using a power router with 1 Gig ram. We are looking at using a second one for the other provider and running BGP. I had heard of some issues with BGP on Routeros in the past. Is anyone running BGP in a production environment without problems? Our backhauls will be with Level 3 and Cogent; so I probably will not get into any exotic route filtering. Is there a recommended version? Was planning on running one of the 5.x versions.

we are running 2.9.51 and 3.30 on level3 and cogent. i have no problems as long as i dont take the entire prefix dump from them both. i take customer routes from cogent to keep the number down since i prefer level3 and have them set as the default gateway anyhow.

Thanks for the info Sam. I was hoping to take full routes from both upstreams and let BGP choose the optimal paths. 1 Gig ram should handle that?

Running full feeds on 3.30 and 4.17. Working fine on RB1000/2GB. 1GB should be enough.
