WhatsMyIP Reports wrong IP, or so I think. How can I change?

Thu Jun 13, 2013 2:15 am

Hi all,

Can someone tell me why the Public IP Reported by WhatsMyIP or ipchicken is other than the Public assigned to the customer?

Based on the few information you give, I can only guess what happens. But it looks like NAT is configured on MTR 1.

That would have been my thought as well. But the 198.x.x.x/30 network is only defined on MTR2 with OSPF announcing it's route. There are some NAT rules for any private networks on MTR1, but, of course, it doesn't NAT the 198.x.x.x/30 or any other Publics I have on MTR1

This is interesting. I've got a 198.x.x.200/30 defined as a Network on MTR2 to announce. On MTR1 I am only seeing a route to .201; GW for the .200/30 network. I should be seeing 198.x.x.200/30 should I not?

Thanks

Yes, you should see 198.x.x.200/30 but just because you add the Network to the list doesn't mean that it gets announced.

What you could try is, to remove the 198.x.x.x from the Networks and check Option "Redistribute Connected".

I totally agree, doesn't mean that it will get announced; depending on OSPF Convergence. But, the, or part of the, route does show up as a DAo route on MTR1... so MTR1 is getting the route via OSPF. Regarding adding "Reditribute Connected". My situation is this I've inherited this network. I have a lot of work to reconfigure this animal, previous admin new nothing of Routing Protocols and has statically defined every route on the network. I hesitate at enabling "Redistribute..." because I want to avoid a routing problem. The router is two hours away if something goes wrong. In the end, absolutely I should have Redistribution for Static and Connected Routes.

The other thing I have tried is removing the network statement as you suggested and added a static route to MTR1 pointing to 10.9.0.30. Traffic flows, but the Public IP for customer at 198.x.x.202 is still reported as the IP of MTR1's upstream interface; 219.x.x.1.

Thanks =)

Anybody have an idea? Like I said, I've inherited a bunch of Mikrotiks with this network. But if I can't get a Public IP to show up as it's ip address then I have no choice but to replace the Mikrotiks and replace with what I know works. It also discourages me to look at implementing them in any new build outs. I'm not NAT'ing this IP Block, so where/what could the problem be? I really want to get to the bottom of this and make it work!

Thanks folks!

Hi all,

Maybe I am asking the wrong question(s) or not providing enough information? Improper forum etiquette? Can someone please, please assist me here?
