VPLS and MPLS throw bridge.

Thu Feb 13, 2014 1:43 pm

One question. If MPLS, VPLS passes through the network segment that is bridge (2 X Mt RB7115hnd sextant wlan and eth in bridge, one side wlan bridge mode, other station bridge), and MTU setings on bridge interface is mtu=1500 l2mtu=1598, can it transport MPLS, VPLS packet without fragmentation?
MPLS MTU on other network devices is 1524 (max l2mtu of RB433GL)

Any MTU changes neaded on that bridge? Increase MTU?

VPLS packet will fit in 1524 frame if control word is not used. With control word it is 1526 bytes.
And no you do not need to increase L3 MTU on bridge interfaces.

If you want to hand off a tagged VPLS frame of 1500 bytes, you will need a Layer 2 and MPLS MTU of at least 1530 across the entire path.
