first i am aware, routerboard is not powerfull, but i am experimenting bit

i would like to use from metarouter (openwrt release 18199 & current patch from mikrotik wiki)
to access usb from openwrt... . I am interested in video & serial over usb...

unfortunately after applaying metarouter patch to openwrt possibility to add kernel module for usb & is removed ( is not accesible)
maybe i am doing somethign wrong - but compilation is ok and openwrt is runing as metarouter quite well...


so i have question - how to access usb from metarouter ??


btw i tryed it yestarday - but wiki patch for metarouter & latest svn release from openwrt is not matching...

currently, AFAIK, there is no way to assign usb port to metarouter, hence you canot load usb modules, since no USB is there to attach to.

I'm pretty sure that there have been no major changes in metarouter... so, no.

That's really not the purpose of a router. Why not just get a small general purpose single-board-computer for this? Like, install OpenWRT directly on one of it's many supported devices instead of trying to use it on top of routeros?

It may not be the purpose of general router, but it is (or at least is becoming) standard for home routers. Not that separate devices don't work, but why have several, when one has enough resources to handle everything.
Personally I sometimes feel like ditching ROS/RB in favor of something with less limits, and basically the only reason not to is WinBox. It is by far superior to any admin interface I've ever seen and I don't want to live without it.
I understand there's no way MikroTik could fulfill everyone's crazy dreams when it comes to various programs they may want to run. MetaRouter could be a solution for that and things like usb access would help. At least until MikroTik comes with something better, i.e. some kind of custom packages.

Ethernet was completely different and easier to implement, so this is why ethernet can be assigned to guest interface.

What about usbip to resolve this trouble?

Is this the same for x86 kvm too?
