Using VLAN to overcome 8 VIF per VM limit in MetaRouter

Thu Jun 24, 2010 11:22 am

Hi,

I was reading the MetaRouter requirement section in the Wiki and it mentions it is possible to use VLANs to overcome the current limitation of 8 VIF's per VM instance.

Can someone post an example of how this is accomplished?

I am unable to come up with a working configuration in my testing.

assigning a lot of interfaces just adds a lot of overhead. Better tell us why you want a lot of interfaces for guest and it can be worked around.

On the other hand i do not see why you could not receive VLANs in Metarouter. If you statically assign interface to the metarouter guest, you will receive packets as is in the guest. And in the guest itself, ethernet is the usual interface from host RouterOS.

I had an error in my configuration which caused VLANs not to work in a VM. I've corrected the error and it works.

I need about 12 VLANs for my current configuration as I moved from another platform, but plan on reducing that number as I simplify the network.
