Ask? I can let RouterOs run as a guest on a Xen 3.xx

I have a server in the RZ (Datacenter)
Intel core i7-920 Quad core inclusive hyper+ Threading technology
8GB RAM
750GB Raid
/24 Subnet 254IP´s

System is Debian Lenny with Xen

I can let the RouterOS run there as Dom.
And can someone give itself times a Config for the Xen?

Best regards
Dirk

Credit already Windows XP and Zeroshell to run as Dom´s

Xen support is removed from ROuterOS, use KVM instead

ou can use full virtualization that does not require XEN capable kernel, or you can try to use debian with KVM.

I've just successfully installed RouterOS 4.17 with InstallCd to a Xen DomU (hvm).
Debian Lenny 5.0.7 amd64 kernel 3.2.1-2 Xen package 2.6.26-26lenny1 kernel

Sadly RouterOS 5.0 installed, but boot stopped at Initrd.

Keep in mind, You need CPU what supports VT (for HVM)

This is also true with KVM.

If you need a CPU that supports hardware virtualization, why not use KVM as suggested with v4 / v5? Both Xen and KVM require hardware virt. support.

Not sure about the stability of KVM in RouterOS, as I don't use it myself.

Right. KVM also needs VT.
After i've upgraded Debian Lenny to Squeeze, i can install ROS5 and also upgrade ROS 4.17 to ROS5

i'm using Xen for years, with satisfaction, I don't want to leave the beaten track if it's not really a must.

if you are feeling more at home with XEN, then just stick with it. Good to hear that after update you are able to run newer RouterOS versions (that have newer kernel in them)
