Nice Mikrotik hotspot ad in Linux Journal!

Though you are a foreign company so you probably wouldn't get in trouble for it, you should gain written copyright permission before using others' images in commercial advertising.

My hotspot screenshot was on there. I won't complain, because it's essentially free advertising and looks good there!

Simple Way.....

Copy the Folder called "Hotspot" to your desktop.
Edit the file Called "Login.htm",

Make Sure that the New Logo/ Pictures are available at the destination folder. After Testing It Just Copy the Folder again and Paste it in to Router.

You can Copy & Paste the Things using FTP, Instead of DRAG N DROP.
I have removed the Sample file,
Normis It is downloaded 135 Time.....But we will appreciate if you put the Sample files here..It will be easy to modify and easy to use for all our MikroTik users....

Thank you.

The whole design of these pages is done via CSS.
The application targeted to hotels, but it can be used to Hotspot, its use is centralized.

The validation mechanism is by prepaid cards or Validation of PMS Micros 2-way, Intsist, Hogatex o Boingo.

We've looked at this previously, it would require someone to develop and maintain the linking software to interface mikrotik user-manager with fidelio (hirum is another one we get asked about).

If you want to discuss this further it would be best to start a new thread.

Got another one here for a seperate hotel/uni service we provide.

Image

The one shown here doesn't include it, but each site can have its own message of the day included below the 'view plans' section.
We've also made allowances for hotel groups to have their own 'skin' for this page if they wish.

I've also blanked out the location and the phone number for privacy reasons.

Good Pages, gave us some ideas and helped us to revamp our existing page with this new one.
Dual login for 16 digit and plan (copied) was a pain, adding Green, orange, red status light made my day. :-)
Clean, all other info is hosted on our site externally, we used to have one central hotspot page, now there is one on each radio, harder to manager, but more relevant information and they still see it if the net is down. :-)

What runs/triggers a green light?
Is it a running javascript or something or is it only set when the page first loads?

not sure about this one, but you can always use an < iframe > and put anything you want in there. just make sure to add that address to walled garden so that the login page can show it before authenticate.

Have a look at this page:

http://portal.cape-connect.com/status.asp

I used a third party script called Ping and Traceroute Control from
http://www.frontpeaks.com/

The web server's doing all the work, so there's no need to make any changes to the walled garden.

Good Question. We used the Object tag, if it can't find one image it steps down to the next one. only works on IE version 8 & Above, most other browsers have no issue.

<td width="323" height="26" align="center" valign="middle" class="text2">Connection Details - Uplink Status.
<object data="https://ourserver.com/online.png" type="image/jpeg" align="absmiddle">
<object data="offline.png" type="image/jpeg" align="absmiddle">

We've actually built our own system from scratch, we started a couple of months before mikrotik started work on their usermanager but have built an entire backend system for our own needs that (if I can say so myself) works really well.

No plans on selling or offering it out at a cost yet.

No plans on selling or offering it out at a cost yet, as we've used lots of open source systems and we'd be breaking GPL if we sold it without releasing the source.

well, you are also breaking it by not releasing any source at all :-) no matter if you sell it or not, source has to be opened to the public, including instructions on any uncommon tasks how to compile/run it and any needed software to get it running. which does not mean, you need to supply a apache-source just for a php-application, but if you wrote some special script for gcc that is needed to get it running it has to be supplied along with the source.

a different thing would be if you only used lgpl-ed software. with the lgpl you are allowed to use it and not open the source.

you are not violating the gpl just by _using_ it. just if you are using gpl-code itself in your application or you are linking against a gpl-library makes you violate it, if you don't release it afterwards to the public.

from what you said i think you created a php/mysql-application that is writing configs for a freeradius-server. as long as you are just "communicating" with these programs and not directly using code of them everything is cool and you don't even have to release it (but it would be cool :-)).

so don't worry about it, it just looked as if you would be really using gpl-code in your first post.

Re: Sample Hotspot Page - Sticky Please

Posted: Tue Jun 23, 2009 11:11 am

and of course you could also sell it without releasing the source, which is not a good idea with a php-application except you are using code-scrambling like dms labs with their radius manager.

Hello..

I just started using Mikrotik a few days ago, and this is my login page.
It is designed to use on a camping. The website mentioned on the hotspot is not in use yet, because
i didn't have time yet to do it.

For the internet, I use a UMTS connection.

Here's the translation in English:

Please login to use this hotspot.
Try it for free, click here!

The rules:
No Youtube,
no streaming radio,
no downloads.
So everyone can enjoy.

you probably are telling the page to look for images in some folder, while in fact, they must be located in, and linked to - the same folder as your HTML file.

check what your IMG tag looks like

<img src="image.jpg" alt="logo" /> <-- correct
<img src="..images/image.jpg" alt="logo" /> <-- not correct

By the way - find somebody who knows HTML, Frontpage is not recommended, all Visual editors have a tendency to break the code that is already in your page, like the login scripts .

Transfer the login.html page from routeros box, open it in vi (or notepad or whatever Windows has for text editing), and you change the html. It is quite simple, really. There are a FEW things that are good to leave alone, but for the most part, it should be very clear which part is not "standard" html.

There are a few more variables documented in the v3 hotspot manual here:

This is just informational for those wondering how to do this.

you can't use PHP in RouteroS hotspot, because RouterOS doesn't have a builtin PHP server. Only static HTML and JavaScript can be used.

Ok! it's what I seemed to have read in the forum.
I presume it uses the walled garden to display a webserver and redirects the login.html page on this server.
But I did not find how.

At the simplest, permit the external server in the walled garden (that is covered in the documentation). The login.html then redirects via refresh headers:
<html><head>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; url=https://my.external-server.com/index.html">
<meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache">
<meta http-equiv="expires" content="-1">

this is the login-page for the HotSpot in an old German castle.
For login, only an "Access Code" is necessary.
But User has to agree to "Terms of Use". Some necessary legal stuff, because its Germany :-)

Great login pages!
Is there a way to have a page like one of these on a central place and have the login.html page on the mikrotik router redirect to that one to make it so that I dont have to ftp the new login page to every hotspot?
Sorry know this is probably not the right thread, so a few keywords to search for a solution will also help cause i think i am looking for the wrong stuff.

Sure. Use a <meta> tag to trigger a refresh redirecting to the central location URL. Make sure you permit all resources necessary to display the external page in the walled garden section so unauthorized users can view them. You can use the servlet variables (see manual) to have the redirect include GET parameters to the central location to report the hotspot DNS name from the client's perspective so you can have the login page on the central location point back to the right gateway for the client to log into.

Here is my hotel manager page to change the hotspot password. This is done securely via an https site for only the hotel managers. I have the code to actually change the password of the guest hotel hotspot account on multiple routerboards. It is a two building hotel that has two different MTs running their hotspot logins.

I thought you all might want to see it. I did a php API interface. If you want to see the code go to this topic here http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=38547

Here is my hotel manager user page. The hotel manager has their own username and password that they enter in and then it uses those credentials to change their guest hotspot password.

I had a lot of fun making this all work. I also had some frustrating moments but dog helped me on my syntax. Props to dog!

The hardest part about the splash page was making it compatible with IE7, IE8.. Everything else worked great for other browsers. Just a tip to use multiple browsers while testing your splash page. We will prolly have a link to a simple splash for smart phones and the like here soon.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Hey Mikrotik, instead motivate users only showing their page, why dont create an special subforum to contain .html files from users who don't care about sharing your own custom login page ?

Would be nicer than only see what is going on around the world!

I have made a template for my hospot that works perfectly. A few days ago i decided to make some changes to him, but now it has a small problem that i don't know how to solve.

When a user tries to login, a non-fatal error message appears, "web browser did not send challenge response (try again, enable JavaScript)".

The template can be downloaded from http://www.picomatica.com/hotspot.rar.

This is my new template (still under construcion):

Flash animated hotspot login page compatible with mikrotik:
http://drobniuch.pl/dragon/
It also shows the status and registration form inside itself.
The registration script puts users into radius tables and the mikrotik takes the hotspot accounts from it.

This is likely a good place to ask - anyone have a working implementation where users can signup for free access via email?

We offer free access in our retail locations, but I currently can track users only via mac address.

Desired function:

User hits portal page - has option to login or signup.

Signup brings up a form that captures desired username and active email address.
Completion of the form gets the user 5 minutes of access so they can retrieve the password from their email.
Customer logs in with the perm password.

Look,
I have been observing this thread from start to finish...
These guys arent going to help you out any by posting sample code... OK!
The same ole thing keeps getting posted over and over in here..

they think everything is a trade secret....lol

Ive worked in Designing Quality Assurance programs that consist of different levels of documentation and communication..... policies, procedures and work instructions... in this thread only two levels of communication exist...policies and procedures..no work instructions exist in here nor will they ever..

So, I am going to give you a link to a website I found where you can bypass a bunch of this headache and frustration which exists here; and download some sample templates people have created for Mikrotik.
This will give you a feel for what is going on with this stuff when you try to edit it....

http://omponk.routelink.net/blog/villa- ... -template/

Ive been involved with open source and GPL since the 80's...

You know... back in the early 80's there used to be an international computer club called CoCo Computers (ie... Color Computers .. division of Tandy Computers).. It was a bunch of open source compu geeks that promoted and exchanged ideas on Tandy and IBM based PC's... Exactly like what this forum does with Mikrotik. The only thing is that it came to an abrupt halt due to the stingy perceptiion of trade secrets and hiding information of good ideas and efforts...Sort of like what is starting to happen here... No one wants to explain anything in detail to anyone due to their perception of..."I made that!... Its mine" In which why even bring it up if you are not willing to detail what your skills and talents discovered?

Ough Yeah... Dont forget to leave some Karma!!...lol

I'd have to disagree with you.. the pages are easy to create, mikrotik themselves provide plenty of documentation on how the variables work and a full example is included as part of each hotspot installation.

It takes merely minutes to ftp into your router and grab a copy to open up in <html editor of your choice> and the way the variables work is easy to see.

What would anyone need that isn't already included? If you want to make a fancy html5 page with ajax logins etc etc you can do it.. just use the skills you already have designing webpages and apply the simple hotspot code into them.

I'm by no means a code monkey but if I want to modify a hotspot page it's pretty easy :-/

Might I add (on behalf of terrysolid) that new site went through design and many hours of testing yet was able to be rolled out in just a few weeks :-)

We've also been able to pretty much remove any need for the status popup window by using radius disconnects (initiated by a button on the page) and making radius interim update details available within minutes (rather than hours like other Australian ISP's!)

Users pick a secret question and answer as well as a password when they first create the account, if they can supply relevant account details and the correct secret answer they get logged into the account to change their password.

Hello

Here is our hotspot system. Not not very fancy to look at, but we like the funktionality: Integrated payments via our own payment gateway, and instant logon (no userinput) via MAC-auth as long the account is valid. The system also supports delivery of credentials via SMS. We are using asp.net and c# code behind with the api to program the usermanager and handle payments, userdata etc. We did this because we don't like PayPal. The customisation features of the actual hotspots are very easy to use, thanks to the good docs in the wiki.

amazing very nice hotspot page, so how can I do my own page to our company.

It is quite easy. First of all download hotspot dir to local folder.
And open it with for eg. notepad++ and see syntax.
You will need html knowledge.

If you have any questions feel free to ask ;)

HI all,

is there also a possibility to change the design of the user management and user registration page...?
User registration - as viewed above - and also the same answer as i gave before.
For user management - i don't know - but AFAIR on new version of usermanager/routeros there is an ability to do this...

There's no "code" for that. It's a picture. It's made with image manipulation software like Photoshop.

Hello Fewi,
What I mean by the code is the login.htm so that i can see the settings and how the pictures are placed in the login page.

I know the picture holder has size and other things involved in the login.htm file. That is what i am requesting.

Thanks

Here in Willunga SA, we have the new Australian NBN. But we are setting up a hotpot on the main streets, I'm about to Google this myself, was just on the site now getting some ideas. but if anyone is willing to post the JS needed to detect Smart/Iphones that would make the life of many on the forums easier I'm sure.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but I 'll probably just say what many people think.

I see lots of people asking for login page source code here.
I understand it's the most easy way to use templates made by others, but this isn't the right attitude to make progress in things.
Just start from the default MT login page and build your own code around it. Learn html,css,...etc there are tons of help, tutorials and courses available online for free.
Yes, you will have to do some effort and it won't go as fast as you like in the beginning, BUT you will LEARN how to do it and isn't that exactly what you've always wanted?

Just my 2 cents,
Kind regards,
B

Here is our general hotspot splash page.

The hardest part about the splash page was making it compatible with IE7, IE8.. Everything else worked great for other browsers. Just a tip to use multiple browsers while testing your splash page. We will prolly have a link to a simple splash for smart phones and the like here soon.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Hello there, You must make a new folder for "i" devices and put this code on the login.html
<script language="JavaScript">
if((navigator.userAgent.match(/iPhone/i)) || (navigator.userAgent.match(/iPod/i))) {
   if (document.cookie.indexOf("iphone_redirect=false") == -1) window.location = "i/login.html";
}
</script>
That will check your browser and if its a mobile one, it will redirect the mobile login page. It is not yet perfect but i'm still working on it.

Current iteration of our hotspot status page.
As I've logged in directly to manage my account and not from behind a hotspot router I do not receive a connect button, however I have my account set to allow PPPoE at the moment anyway so I wouldn't be logging in via the hotspot interface, just checking my time/data/purchases.

The whole design of these pages is done via CSS.
The application targeted to hotels, but it can be used to Hotspot, its use is centralized.

The validation mechanism is by prepaid cards or Validation of PMS Micros 2-way, Intsist, Hogatex o Boingo.
We have our own PMS system that we developed in house, we are looking to provide a two way link with a Microtik device, is there any chance we could work together to achieve what you have with our PMS system? Please contact me directly to mark at littlefishcom dot net to discuss in more detail.

Thanks

Here is a nice free text editor http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.1.4.html much better than notepad especially for editing HTML code.

Easy editing tip: open the hotspot page you want to edit locally on your PC with your favourite browser. Then also open it with Notepad++. As you make changes with notepad++ simply refresh the browser window to see your changes instantly.

You will very quickly learn how HTML code works by using one of the templates I posted earlier as a starting point. Dont be afraid of it. HTML code is really very simple once you get the basic idea.

If you enjoy all the cruft added as a result of building a page in a GUI system :-)

Our site passes W3C validation (for all the main pages), is html5, makes use of sprites and jquery and was all written in notepad++/textmate/vi/nano
(depending on who was working on it at the time :-) )
login-page.PNG
So while Dreamweaver may be good for some things, I feel to achieve a really efficient system you need to get in and write your own efficient code.
Even on our admin interface, total code base size is under 10MB due to good use of a page framework!

We use one-time-use passwords for the hotspot users (so no session variables ever include the user's actual password) so switching to pppoe simply blocks the user from connecting via the hotspot, resets their radius password to match their account password and applies a pppoe radius group to the user record.

The accounting system has been built in house but uses radius+mysql and custom perl/php for front/backend work.

Check if you have already installed the Hotspot package. You have to create a hotspot system on this router (use Hotspot setup @ IP\Hotspot in winbox). After done that you should be able to find the files you've been looking for.

Hope it helps :-)

Hi - I work for a rural wireless ISP in the UK. We're installing a hotspot service for a subscriber. I'm looking for someone who can build a log-in page for us. The system needs to be able to accept credit card payments (through Sagepay) and also to work with password access from cash-purchased scratchcards. The system will be time-limited, and could have up to 100 users logged-in at any one time. We'd be delighted to hear from anyone with suitable skills.

And copy-paste the code in "login.html".

After having a Mikrotik 951 for 7 days. i just started hacking a login template together
Image

the source that i used as a template is http://http://cssdeck.com/labs/simply-login-form
the default didn't work with IE10 so I modified it.
The background is not a image. it is create by 8 lines in the css

I made it so generic as possible.
So if someone want's the code that I use, send me a PM.

I must say. I'm still learning css so if you take a look at the css code, it is still messy.
