Does Bad Blocks = Bad Sectors?

Fri May 15, 2009 9:17 am

What does the the Bad Blocks in winbox --> system --> resources mean?

One of my rb433 is showing that there is 3 bad blocks. Is it the same as bad sectors? Like on a hdd? I dont hope so, the rb is still new. Can anyone explain?

I have the latest ros on both my rb's

3 is too little to worry about, according to the manufacturer of the NAND chip, 100 is still fine. If it's more than that, you can fix it with "format NAND" from the Bootloader config screen. RouterOS is smart, it will not use the blocks marked as bad.

as I said, up to 100 bad blocks from the factory is acceptable, it's a very very small percentage. practically non existent. format it from the BIOS menu (serial console, hit any key, choose FORMAT NAND). You will have to Netinstall to restore RouterOS, but do this ONLY!! if you have more than 100 badblocks, because this doesn't disturb anything.
