x86 motherboard, support for ROS, more than 2 PCIs slots

Thu Jul 23, 2009 1:32 pm

Hi, can everybody help me to find the platform - motherboard. My expectations: support for ROS3, more than 2PCIs(ideal 4-5), lowest possible power consumption. I was thinking of motherboard with chipset AMD 740G(it has propably the lowest power consumption from motherboards), but dont know if it is supported by ROS, and also I couldnt find motherboard with more than 2PCIs slots. Can you help?

The P43-ES3G that was suggested won't be a good match for you because you require low power consumption and even the best discrete graphics cards will pull 10-20 watts. If you don't need the latest and greatest CPU support and can live with the limits of 1333 FSB give the Foxconn G31AX-K a look. We are using several running RouterOS and Vyatta depending on what we are doing with them, some with several quad port nics and have no problems. Run all of the Intel E-series CPU's fine and I think they will handle all the Q's as well with the latest BIOS. Just FYI, the BIOS options are limited on this board so don't expect to be able to play a whole lot. Finding a decent board with 5 PCI slots is a challenge these days, apparently hardware manufactures think we're all made out of gold and can afford (or want) PCI-E nics.

I just bought asus m2a-hdmi, chipset amd690g in sale for 20€, also bought amd sempron le-1250 for 25€. The motherboard has only 2 PCIs, but bought rb44 network adapter. I undervolt CPU and everything on motherboard, the power consumption over day is 27W, which is great, I just test it now before putting it out. Everythin seems to work, also integrated ethernet. As power supply I use Fortron fsp-180. Cpu is underclocked running on 1GHz.
