Hardware performance for PPTP server

Wed Jan 27, 2010 2:54 am

My server's Spec as like this.

Xeon 2.4 dual-core 2ea (4 core)
4G ECC-Reg RAM
1G SLC DOM (E-IDE)+ 200G IDE HDD (for store log file)
Dual Gigabit intel 1000MT Nic

I tried to install ROS 4.5 to this server at this morning. it seems working well.
Q1. How many concurrent PPTP connection can handle with this spec? I have around 2,000 clients who waiting for me.

each client Bandwidth 200k/200k limit, and each NIC connected 80M/80M with Optical Fiber transiver from ISP.
and also have Radius server which can handle more then 5000 concurrent connection . so this machine is only for PPTP server.
and I also want to using all 2 port Nic for PPTP SERVER, each port. each port asign 4 Public IP address (total 8 Public IP Address, each IP Addresses BW Limitted 20M/20M)
Q2.how can i seperate traffic per port for one PPTP server?
surely i will buy level 6 lecense.
or if anyone can setup for me please contact to me (seanlee0326@gamil.com or call +82-10-4605-8041(s.Korea, GMT+9) , I'm not asking free support..hhh

and I also want to know.

I have 2 of RB-450G with Level5 license.
if I using this for PPTP server only,
How How many concurrent PPTP connection can handle with each RB-450G
each client Bandwidth 200k/200k limit, and each NIC connected 100M/100M with Optical Fiber transiver from ISP.
each port asign 1 Dynamic Public IP address (total 5 Public IP Address, each IP Addresses BW Limitted 100M/100M and ISP Guarantee 50M/50M per each IP)

Note, MikroTik RouterOS supports only 2GB RAM now.

1) There are no any limit for PPTP session. If I correctly understand your description, maximum is 400 clients (looking on your bandwidth). It should not be a problem for such number of connection. As well you can use RouterBOARD 1000 for this task.

2) More information is required about your requirement. You can look and contact one of MikroTik certified consultant from your region,

thanks for reply.

yes i just realize ROS only suppot 2G ram. so i did downgrade to 2g ram.

so If i have 6 NIC and each NIC connected 80Mbps dedicate connection. (480Mbps total bandwidth), need to device by speed limit 200Kbps

480M/200k =2400 simultaneous client. but number of concurrent connection is limited by bandwidth. not by processing power..

Am i right?
