NetInstall v4.6 lacks Intel Drivers?

Sun Feb 21, 2010 4:33 am

I'm having a problem building some new routers. We are building new Core i5-750 based routers that will run Mikrotik RouterOS 4.5
Problem is that I'm running NetInstall 4.6 (latest available) and the new router boots from PXE onboard Intel 82578DC, obtains an ip, and obtains the Mikrotik netinstall code from NetInstall. Then it immediately fails with the following:

Mikrotik Router Software Remote installation

FATAL ERROR: no network card found

I have 3 network interfaces in this router, onboard 82578DC Intel, and two PCI-e Intel (EXPI9301CT) 82574L network cards.

I've tried booting from the onboard and each Intel PCI-e network interface with the same results on all 3 adapters. Any particular reason NetInstall isn't finding these Intel interfaces (82574L/82578DC)?

Motherboard : Intel DP55WG
Chipset : P55 Express
CPU : Intel Core i5-750 Quad
Memory : Kingston DDR3-1333 Dual Channel 2gb Memory Kit
SSD : Transcend 2gb Flash SSD SATA (TS2GSDOM22V)
Additional NICS : EXPI9301CT (QTY 2) and Intel EXPI9404PTL (4 port)
(7 Intel Network Interfaces Total)

can you check with already installed copy whether RouterOS supports those NICs at all?

maybe try to install ROS directly to your media (via NetInstall) and boot from it?

Looks like RouterOS 4.5 doesn't support Intel's current motherboard chipsets or network card chipsets :(

I used an older system (with ide cdrom) to image the boot ssd (since CDROM image cd doesn't support SATA CDROM drives) and have RouterOS 4.5 running but it doesn't show any Intel network interfaces

P55 Chipset ONBOARD 82578DC Intel
Intel PCI Express x1 PRO 1000 Network Cards EXPI9301CT (Chipset : 82574L)

:(

Its unfortunately that the industry is dropping IDE interfaces and PCI slots from their current motherboards, and using newer updated Intel network card chipsets, but RouterOS isn't updating their Intel network drivers to support the current Intel cards used on today's hardware, nor has SATA CDROM support been enabled in NetInstall so that a router can be imaged by booting from an SATA CD/DVD boot cd.
