It is now possible to give thanks to a forum member, for helping you find the solution to a problem. This can be done by clicking + (plus to increase karma) in the helpful post. Each post has a plus/minus icon below the posters name.

Image

The voting is on a per-post basis, so if somebody posts a very helpful message, you have to vote for this specific message. You can choose "karma power", or - how many points you would like to give the poster. 1 is for a generally helpful post, and 5 is for a life saver which is super detailed and universally helpful. You will also have to describe why you give these points, you can clarify that for example "this post helped me to fix my network".

You can vote only once during 6 hours, so spend your votes wisely. The more you vote, the more we will see the emerge of most helpful forum members.

So don't forget - give positive karma to useful and helpful posts, and clarify why you do that, and give negative karma to agressive and unhelpful posts and clarify why.

I'll will give you 5 positive votes if you can help me get a firmware from Zyxel in Belarus. :)

The headquarter in Taiwan were very helpful, but they couldn't give me the firmware, becuse they don't have it and that this VLAN switch belongs to the Russian market.

Zyxel ES-305 VLAN Switch
Firmware = V2.00(ARK.1)CO

You'd better not have anything to do with Zyxel, their support sucks and they woun't answer any emails.

This is a worldwide problem where support is being underpayed. Also companies take most care of big volume clients usually. And not someone who bought 1 unit. And even sometimes they think they reply to you with something useful but isntead the problem gets worse :) soooo dont feel down my friend :) just move on if that one switch will not do the job you want it to :)

+ a direct download lol http://dl1.web.zyxel.ru/001/ES-305/firm ... _AIZ.0.zip

I saw that. I thought, he wahts V2.00(ARK.1), not V2.00(AIZ.0) :)

Hahaa if this one fixes the problem I will get all the Karma votes :P :P ha ha And maybe there will be one for you :)

And later I may try to send a google-translated message to russian support e-mail to get even more stuff :P

I don't understand this, when I click on the firmware link I can download V2.00(AIZ.0).

When I click on the link to documents below, I get it for V2.00(ARK.X). It's a completely different firmware, AIZ is a router firmware, and ARK is a VLAN switch.

http://zyxel.ru/content/support/downloa ... 4/document

Next batch of switches will be something else, not Zyxel. I cannot understand why the ship it with different firmwares. :twisted:

A router firmware ? Same mdoel number ? ES-305 ? Where did you see this?

Re: Forum feature: karma voting

by THG
Yes, different firmwares for the same hardware. You can reflash it depending of your needs, CPE with firewall functions, or CPE with VLAN functions. You can see this in the pdf documents (link to documents above).

So you flashed it with firewall and now you want to revert back to VLANs ? Does it have a JTAG connector onboard ? :)

Re: Forum feature: karma voting

by THG
No, I (the company I work with) purchased thousands of them, and 50% were flashed with the router firmware. The headquarter tried to solve this issue, but they told me that this product is only for the Russian market, so only the people from the Russian office can help me out with my problem. The problem is that I get no response from them, they just ignore me, or they don't understand English.

I don't know if this unit has JTAG, but I remember that it has a serial port. Maybe it's possible to make a backup of the firmware as with other Zyxel products.

I know. Strangely, if you log out, it will show more users. It's configured to show more, but i guess there is a bug in the plugin

Hi normis and Chupaka. I thought it was supposed to be that way. If you log in, the karma list only shows the users in the list who have more karma than you do. That is what it has been doing since I have been watching. When I was #6 it showed 6 names. Now that I am #3, it shows only three. My user name is always last when I am logged in.

Hi Chupaka! You shouldn't see my user name in the list. I am below you! Unless three is the minimum? I wonder how many users fewi sees in the karma list?

ADD: And I do hope you mean you can see me on the karma list. Kinda freaked me out for a minute. If that is not what you meant, you are hiding really good, because I can't find you here. :D

Karma list, exactly =) seems like 3 is the minimum =)

anyway, there are not three but many sysadmins,

I'll go with that! Happy SysAdmin day! But they don't show on my karma list when I am logged in, except fewi and Chupaka, of course! And special thanks to both of you for helping me with my continuing education here. :D

I forgot why I ended up on this thread. My question was "how did I end up with so much karma?". It seems my karma goes up without receiving a 'your karma has increased' message. I had 14, then got two messages, and my karma went up 5 to 19. ?? Can you give karma and not leave a message? I have not tried it yet.

Looks like the user's control panel overrides any global, and the default in mine was 3.

Yup, I can see it!

I wonder if there's some global setting they can override to make the default per user something other than three. Doesn't seem fair to show so few users, you know?

Yeah, but the global settings have always been like this:

That plugin is buggy, and is not being updated. Too bad that's the best there is.

to change default settings for new users:
ALTER TABLE phpbb_users
	ALTER user_karma_notify_email SET DEFAULT '1',
	ALTER user_karma_notify_pm SET DEFAULT '0',
	ALTER user_karma_toplist_users SET DEFAULT '20',
	ALTER user_karma_comments_self SET DEFAULT '0';
I'd also do this:
UPDATE TABLE phpbb_users SET user_karma_comments_self = 0;
:)
