Winbox 2.2.16 on Windows 7 - Broken drag and drop

I am having a problem with Winbox where any drag and drop functionality is simply not working.

I cannot drag and drop files nor can I reorder items in lists. The problem occurs regardless of what version of RouterOS the router I connect to is running.

Running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, this issue has survived a format and clean install so I suspect its an issue with Winbox.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Works fine for me on same versions. Show us a screenshot where you try to drag. Maybe there is another issue

so, the problem is only with loader v2.2.16? other loaders work fine?

A demonstration of the problem is above.

I've just tested with 2.2.15 also and the same issue persists.

The other PC's I have run Win7 Home Premium 32 bit and XP Pro and have no issue.

I had the issue on this machine and ignored it for a while thinking it was some sort of software configuration issue, but yesterday I formatted and clean installed.

Literally all I have installed is drivers and a web browser, yet the problem is there again.

Perhaps some drivers are messing with a registry setting somewhere.

Drag & Drop does not work between processes which were started with administrator privileges and normal processes. Probably explorer is running as normal process, but winbox is started with administrator privileges.

The strange part is that it also seems to affect reordering of items. For example I cannot reorder items in the Firewall>Nat section.

Drag and drop of files is working for me in Windows 7 x64. ROS versions 4.5-5beta2.

I have UAC disabled.

I usually connect via "Mac telnet"

connecting with MAC address will bring you many problems. Drag and drop will not work, connections will time out. Use MAC to connect only in emergency cases.

FYI, I have the same problem. Win7 64bit. Only on Win7. XP works fine.

Doesnt matter if its mac-winbox or IP winbox. Cut and paste works, just not drag and drop.

I have the same problem. WinXP Professional 32bit.

Problem with drag-n-dropping files I solved by using Ctrl+C and pressing Paste icon into WinBox window.

But sorting of ip-firewall rules is very big problem whithout d-n-d function. :(

Tested WinBox 2.2.15 and 2.2.16 (IP connection , MAC connection), admin account in WinXP.

I create new user in WindowsXP, relogin and start WinBox, but it did not solved problem.

But all is ok on another computer.

I understand, this is problem of our WinXP systems, but how to find and fix this problem i do not know.

ps: drag-n-drop work normal in Word, Excel and another applications.

I have created a film with a demonstration of two problems drag-n-drop functions: dragging items and files.

Problem with drag and drop files, I partially solved and showed it in the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4cu_JEBAm4

To resolve issue with items, I propose a partial solution to the key combination Alt + Up and Alt + Down menu items moved up and down.

How to propose this idea to developers?

I noticed the same problem in my winodws 7 64bit.
If I log off as my user and login as administrator I can drag and drop fine.
I made my user part of the administrator group and tried it again with my user and I cannot drag and drop.
Some sort of security issue.

Similar problems here :

- Drag and Drop does not work

- Sub menus do not work (IP, IPV6, Routing, System, Tools).

I feel that Winbox is using special system calls to manage its window because it is the only software giving me problems.

I'm using a clear install of Windows 7 32 bits, and Actual Multiple Monitor, a multi monitor desktop management software similar to Ultramon.

I have three monitors, so a window management software is mandatory for efficient administrative work.

Another problem we have with Winbox is that the passwords are stored in cleartext in the winbox.cfg file stored in the %APPDATA% directory. I tried to portabilize it running it from a launcher and copying back and forth the winbox.ini file from the portable directory to %APPDATA% but it is not a very safe solution and it is complexe (but working).

I would ask two things for next version :

- Normal system calls so that all window functions are working normally, regardless the host system or running window management

- Portability (so that we can run Winbox from a Truecrypt virtual disk)

Thanks for listening.

Same problem here, using Actual Window Manager 6.7.2.
Menus will not show, winbox when closed will not exit (have to kill via task manager).

I have added it to exceptions and all is fine now, took me a while to realise what the problem was :)

Same issue here with Actual Multiple Monitors. Took me ages to find out AMM was the conflict. First I tried cleaning registry and winbox cache, and was left baffled. Let's hope this is addressed in some way...

This is old topic, however it's been 2-3 years now and the problem is still the same. Winbox does not work along with Actual Multiple Monitor application.

you mean, developers of Actual Multiple Monitor still not fixed their application not to prevent WinBox from its normal work? :) do they know at all? ;)

touché... winbox uses a non-standard UI, it seems far more likely that it is winbox at fault... I guess it's also worth mentioning that no other application I use has this sort of conflict with AMM

Contact AMM and report them a bug.

It seems to me that Winbox is using a non standard window management, bypassing normal Windows API.

I reported this a long time ago and spent some time with AMM to find a solution without success.

If winbox is non standard, well why not if it's more reliable / performant, but something simple could be done i think to avoid compatibility problems with windows management software.

Did someone try other management window softwares with Winbox ? No problems ?

Perhaps Mikrotik could give some informations about their window management system (or what is non standard in it) so that we can report that to AMM and try to get it working.

Yes, in my case, this has solved the problem.
I had to start winbox without Administrator privileges. After that drag and drop was working fine!!

I Have the same problem but I uses Windows 8.1 as soon as I run actual multiple monitor on then I cannot click on IP tree, IPv6, Routing, System and Tools. The rest works fine.
if I turn off (Exit Actual Multiple Monitor) then it works fine.

Anyone have this problem solved yet with these winbox 2.2.1.6 and actual multiple monitor ?
