Running Router OS inside USB Thumb Stick is Reliable?

Sat Oct 02, 2010 5:56 pm

Hi,

We bought a couple HP Ml 350 Servers that only have SMART ARRAY SAS Controller :( So the only way to run RouterOS is install it in USB thumb stick.

Yesterday i just installed and its running well but i´m worried about reliability. These Servers have an internal USB Connect só the thum stick stays inside the Server Case.

What do you think about reliability of running mikrotik as a core router running on a thumb stick . i´m using a Kingston 4gb Stick.

Thanks

Hi,

Buy additional IDE controllers and install IDE disks.
Kingston is really good manufacturer, but don't expect more than 2.000.000 write cycles to these sticks.
USB sticks are OK if you don't use them as frequently-written storage devices.

Regards, Grzegorz.
