PCQ no more than 5Mbit per user

Thu Nov 18, 2010 5:32 pm

Hi,

I have set up PCQ queue, works ok till the rate 5MB, if I set for example 20Mbit, the speed is still maximum at 5Mbits. Tried tuning limit and total limit, but without effect.

Affected is one thread downloading, like if I download one file using http. If i do bandwidth test using 20 connections, I can get what I set.

Any idea?

best regards,

Petr

Show your queue and all related configuration in text form in

Silly question, but can you do single stream 20Mbit with PCQ off?

PCQ queues give me no more as 10Mbps (any setting of rate, limit, total-limit at queue type).
ROS 4.10 x86, CPU load cca 20%. Single user test, cca 20 connections at uTorrent.

If I change queue type to pfifo, speed is rising and is limited only max-limit settings at queue.

At Mikrotik newsletter 29 is written:
"PCQ has been rewritten in RouterOS v5.0RC5, this was done to optimize PCQ for high speed throughput."

It means(?), PCQ in RouterOS before 5.0RC5 "is not optimized for high speed" => there can be limit in design.

Where is speed limit for PCQ before and after 5.0RC5?

You should send your question to the support. My guess would be that it will be backported to v4.

This implementation properly utilize all new Linux Kernel features, this makes PCQ faster and less resource demanding.
v4 has old Kernel

It might be lost in translation but
new Linux Kernel features, this makes PCQ faster and less resource demanding.
means to me that new implementation is more efficient. Of course, in MT tradition, if the fix is not mentioned does not mean that it is not there :)

It's best to just get a clarification from the support, I think.

Yes, it means that PCQ in v5 is better, not that v4 was broken.

We don't plan to backport the changes to v4 as it's too difficult to do. We make new features into new versions.

We make new features into new versions.
Well, nv2 was possible to backport into v4.

It means that as long as v5 is stii "rc" we can't pick any fruits of this new pcq implementation.
When can we expect v5. to come with first release version? Probably some months later I can start thinking of using it...

After my deception of putting v4.15 on my rb1000 I am very hesitative to put any new versions on my most important border routers...
