Winbox Bug

Fri Dec 03, 2010 9:49 pm

So we were doing some testing and I noticed an odd bug in both 4.11 and 4.6. When running a ping via the tool>ping utility in Winbox, it uses the computer's DNS settings to resolve host names, not the DNS of the MikroTik. Our confirmation steps are below.

Set valid DNS on the MikroTik.
Set your computer to have an invalid address as the DNS server.
Winbox into the MikroTik and attempt a ping google.com using the tool>ping utility.
Winbox will immediately give you an error indicating it can't resolve the address.
Open a terminal window and do a ping to google and it resolves immediately.
Set your DNS server to a proper DNS server.
Close and reopen the tool>ping utility
Ping using the tool>ping utility again and it goes through.

We confirmed this while remote as well. Set an invalid DNS server and did a ping and it failed immediately. Set ourselves to a valid DNS server and it worked fine.

Anyone care to confirm?
