Layer 7 L2TP RTP Issue

Wed Apr 20, 2011 1:10 am

Hi All,

Wee issue here with one of our L2TP setups. We've been running a routed vpn between remote sites sharing data and Layer 3 stuff no worries. SMB, HTTP, FTP etc..

Now our client has moved onto a Shoretel phone system but we're having trouble getting the Layer 7 RTP traffic working. The switch can see the shoretel director but is unable to receive any configuration. It seems that some form of NAT'n is happening.

VPN Config

172.16.10.0/24 NET 1
|
10.0.1.9/32 VPN 1
|
|
10.0.1.10/32 VPN 2
|
172.16.11.0/24 NET 2

Switches are 172.16.10.11 and 12
Shoretel Director is 172.16.11.5

Switches can boot and connect to director, download config etc.. but the director can't see them and the switches can't see the switches across the link.

traffic from 172.16.11.5 goes to 10.0.1.9, not the originating 172.16.10.11

All other Layer 3 and 4 stuff seems to be ok.

Any suggestions appreciated.

cheers

As an update I've built an IPSEC tunnel over the L2TP link and everything seems to be traversing fine aside from the RTP Traffic for Shoretel.

Any gurus out there with tips, please feel free to step in now...
