DNS monitoring

Wed Aug 17, 2011 7:34 am

|ADSL modem|------|RB750G_Masq & routed&dns server|-----|SWITCH|==USERS

Hello. I have put a 750G router between my works adsl router and the end users to start monitoring usage(bandwidth p2p/non agreeable web sites etc..).

I am wondering if there is a way to monitor and or log who's IP/Computer name
initiated the DNS lookups ??

I see the DNS cache in the router holds sites that have been visited but I cant identify who made the initial request.
Any idea's ??

one thing you can do is create transparent proxy (without data storage on the board) and set up remote logging of proxy requests. Then you could see what http url who is requesting (internal IP)
