Fibre solutions

Mon Aug 22, 2011 3:07 am

Hi all,

I'd like to start putting access points around our site, and also use up some dormant multimode fibre capacity we have.
Can anyone recommend a 12 or 24 port fibre switch (either with pluggable SFPs or not), and a decent fibre/copper converter for hosting my routerboards?
Am looking at putting about 50 of these things out there, all going back to 2-3 fibre switches.

Cheers,
Brett

If you're doing simple layer 2 backhaul any managed switch would do. I'd go with an HP ProCurve or something - everything else is overkill, but having those features over a dumb switch might come in handy.

I've had OK experience with StarTech and RAD media converters, but generally speaking I hate media converters quite a lot.
